I currently have all the info filled out to place an order with CMP but, I'm a little unsure on which exact model do I want. After reading multiple threads and with the new price adjustments to these rifles I just wanted to hear some input you all may have. I was particularlly interested in the CMP Speical Grade, Service Grade, or the Springfield Service Special. I understand that with the Special Grade their isn't much of a collectors value because it's a complete CMP rebuild but it would still is very appealing to me have a brand new M1(especially if its a rebuild on a WWII reciever & can be used for for competion with the new barrel). Being that I don't live close to any of the stores I can't go an hand pick out a service grade. Also, being that these rifles are mixed parts and luck on what you recieve is the only cons I see. After the research I have done many people have been completely happy and CMP tends to have a great reputation of still giving you a great rifle either though it's a service grade. With the price lower I could purchase more rounds which is a huge plus. Has anyone recieved and of the Springfield Special Service Grade M1's. The site is stating that its correct or collector metal just with a brand new CMP stock. Will these rifles hold any collector value with a new stock or is it worth selling the old stock to get one to match the serial number to the reciever. And with the new SA special service grades does anyone know of what the range for the serial numbers to the rifles are around. While I am looking to purchase a M1 I would like something that over many years would hold or gain some collector value. I look foward to hearing everyone's input and know that with ordering a cmp an owning my first m1 that I won't be disappointed. Thanks.
I got a service grade HRA and spent the rest on ammo
It is a great GREAT rifle.
ME of less than 1
TE of 1.5
And whatever you think you want to spend on ammo...double that amount. I am kicking my own ass regularly for not buying another $200 worth of ammo. Now I have to go back . Well thats not all bad but the idea of going to the store and not buying another rifle???Heresy I tell ya.
So this year Im buying $500 worth of ammo alone. Maybe $750 if I keep working OT. Can NEVER have enough ammo for a Garand. CMP is so much cheaper than anywhere else.
I sent my order in Monday for a Service Grade HRA. I could drive the six hours to the South Store but I don't have the time with school and other obligations.
