I have one of each. The service grade was a six million springfield and a real shooter. The metal was really nice except for the front end. The wood was the real bummer. The main stock was oil finish and the very front wood was varnished. Fair amount of scratches and dings. I ended up replacing the wood with a Boyd's stock.
The service grade special was a HRA and basically a correct grade less the CMP stock. I can't tell its ever been fired. Absolutely mint.
Those are my experiences. If I get another I'll spend the extra for a "like new" rifle.
The one I picked up last year is a SG HRA and it mostly correct except for the CMP branded stock, the metal looks perfect

That trigger guard is definately not HRA, that is a WWII guard. Love that stock marbling though!!!
