Is it worth rebarreling an old garand or just get another on from the CMP and hang this one on wall?
5.8mil reciever if that matters, barrel looks like gravel road.
Rebarrel with Criterion cost around $300, Field grade crapshoot is around $500 for full functional rifle.
Use is just shooting steel out to 500 for shits and giggles.
It's worth re-barreling in my opinion. How are the rest of the parts? You could always sell it stating it needs a barrel replacement.
Get another one while they got em, rebarrel it in the future. That's what I'd do.
Rebarrel shot out rifle to 7.62X51/.308
Buy second Garand in original .30/06
You know you want to,,,

A Field Grade may well need rebarreled also. Either rebarrel the one you have or buy a Service Grade from CMP when they come available and sell you old rifle for parts
Plenty of good used barrels out there in the $125 to $150 range.
Something to think about...
I vote rebarrel.
Shuff's will put a new barrel on for $240, or install one you provide for $50.
Shuffs Parkerizing
.30-06 OR .308

That is covered by a 308 Tanker Garand I have had a few years now.
Lookin at egunparts and watching the AGI video I think this is something I might be able to do myself using a USGI barrel. Egun has some good condition SA barrels, and they also have some others that are fair priced. Lookin at the AGI video it really looks like something that can be done easier than building an AK47.

If your bolt will head space, then it is fairly simple. If it won't head space, then you will have to swap bolts until you find one that does. That is not so simple.
get both...
