M77 Mk II Laminated Stock...
I have a few of these, had them for years. Two of them, a 30.06 and a 7 MM Mag, have the "Boat Paddle" style black Zytel stocks, one a 300 Win Mag has a laminated stock that is heavy. Has anyone swapped out the laminated stock for something lighter? Did it increase the felt recoil much? I'm thinking it will.
Here's a trick that you can maybe use.
If the stock is hollow, unscrew or pry loose the glued-on end cap. You can stuff the hollow butt full of as much cleaning supplies, spare parts, and emergency cleaning kits/gear as you like, all of which adds some recoil damping mass to the stock. Also moves center of gravity of rifle to the rear, making the whole rifle feel "livlier" in the hands.
Yes, it adds weight compared to an empty stock, but at least the weight has some purpose and use to it, and it's not dead weight.
