Ok, so I found this thread Rem 700 conversion about converting 700’s to accept out favorite mags, but there is a ton of resistance to these mods because of the melding of a precision rifle to semi-auto mags and the logistics of it (modifying mags, stocks, receivers). So this thread is months old already, just wondering if there’s a weapon that approaches it from a different angle, one where the rifle is designed around the magazine it accepts that isn’t being talked about.

It’s pretty much the same end point, a bolt rifle that uses AR magazines specifically .308 pmags. I know this is unorthodox and the general mentality is that it’s precision system that comes off the line the way it’s meant to be used, and one should not complicate and ruin these already perfectly functioning quality rifles. My stance on it… attempt to minimize logistical supply needs, and standardize my cache as much as possible. If anyone knows of such a bolt rifle that does this, and doesn’t cost some astronomical price, please share. Thanks.

You need to stop, step back and ask yourself "why?"

If you want a precision rifle that accepts Pmags, there are a pile of them already. Why does it need to be a bolt action? If you are talking about supply and logistics then it has "tactical" overtones to it. In this case a semi-auto precision rifle is a superior choice. This is why the military and many police departments are going that direction.

However if you take a look in my safe you will notice something. All the bolt action rifles that are magazine fed use AI magazines. The simple reason behind it is that I can get an AICS based magazine systems for just about anything (FN, Savage, Winchester, Remington, Sako, Tikka, etc.). I don't need to reinvent the wheel and end up with a standard magazine that is ultra reliable. If I am at a match and need to borrow a mag or loan a mag, chances are an AICS magazine will work.

If you look past the bolt guns you will see that I have other systems that accept M14 type mags, 7.62 Pmags, 5.56 Pmags, AK, etc. Because I don't feel some need to make my personal collection into a military arms room where everything has to have interoperability.

Get a TUBB 2000 if you want to use 20s in a bolt gun.

For what it is worth though, there is probably nothing better than an AW magazine.
