I was able to take my .308 build to the range today. Heres how she sits so far
Sps Tactical .308 20" barrel
Bell and carlson lightweight varmint stock in OD green
Tactical bolt knob
EGW 20 moa base
Burris low rings
bushnell 3200 10x mil/mil
harris bipod
pod lock
I was shooting crappy usammo 150 gr fmj since I left my federal gold match at the house
This first target has a cluster on the left that was shot at 200 yards. 4 shots and they were all on my paper. The middle cluster was at 100 yards.
Heres another "group" at 100 yards. Not great at all,but its a start for me to work around.
Hopefully I can shoot some match ammo tomorrow and take my time more to see if Im capable of better shots than this. Love the rifle so far. A DBM and a muzzle break are on the to do list.
Heres another set of groups. These are shooting Federal Gold Match 168gr at 100 yards. The top two,and bottom right are ok. The middle and bottom left are horrible

Its like I have seen this before.

lol probably. The targets were from shooting today though so I thought I would put them up too.
nice looking rifle, I am hunting for my first bolt action rifle. and the SPS is high on my list. I like the stock, does it take mags?

No,its a stock Remington BDL internal magazine. Im ordering a wyatts DBM here soon.
Match ammo should shrink that group by at least half if you take it easy and use a good rest and sandbags.
Are you going to shoot tomorrow a 3, 5, or 10 round group right off the bat?
I did a 10 round group with my 5R right off the bat with Federal American Eagle 168gr OTM 2 weeks ago.

I shot some 5 shot groups with the FGGM 168 gr. One group I could cover with a quarter, the rest I think I rushed and didnt let the barrel cool down so they were less than stellar

Il post those results up in a bit.
2moa for a new build and cheap 150gr FMJ....depending on what it was, that sounds reasonable.
My SPS tac doesn't seem to heat up too quickly, a a string or two fairly "rapidly" doesn't seem to affect POI or groups much at all.
The key for shooting groups is a good, solid rest and do NOT rush the shot.
If you find yourself rushing...stop!
I will usually unload the rifle and dry fire on target just as if I were actually shooting for groups. Its also a good excersize while you're waiting for the barrel too cool so you don't have to just sit there looking around like a prairie dog.
People don't think to dry fire rifles for practice like they do handguns, but it can help a lot with muscle memory and anticipation...
That's some good shooting.
how did you break in that new bore...??? did you just shoot it...??? or did you do a shoot and clean..???
