Found a fairly beat up winchester 94 in 30-30. Looks like the owner took it apart and couldn't figure out how to put it back together again. It has a lot of surface rust on the receiver. The barrel has flecks here and there.. At some point someone mounted a scope mount but half the mount is missing and only one screw is still holding the mount to the receiver.

It is definitely a project gun but it's a pre 64. I would take the scope mount off and plug the holes I would probably just phospo or cold blue the bad areas and call it good.

You guys think it's worth $200 or no? Should I snatch it up and try to save it and make it a deer killing machine? I don't plan to recoup money out of it. I just want to have handy deer rifle and something my son can use when he gets older.

The last beater 94 I bought was for $150 and it was complete with a scope, nothing missing. Unless you are really familiar with the 94 and how to get it up and running again, there is no way I'd spring $200 for what sounds like nothing more than a parts gun. They made millions of those things, not like they are rare or anything.

If it's a true pre-64 I disagree. It's definitely worth $200, even in pieces, if it all there.
