Hey guys, I just got back from visiting my parents in Cali for Christmas and my mom gave me a NIB Winchester '94AE Trapper with a 16" barrel in .45 Colt. Now almost all of the examples that I can find of these have that hideous receiver mounted safety, while this one has a much nicer tang safety. She got it for $300 from a friend at her work who had it brand new since '06, and I know that it's worth more than that.

Any idea if the tang mounted safety adds value to the rifle? I have zero plans on selling this bad boy, I'm just curious. I'll get pics up in a while.

Thanks guys.

The tang safety guns were the last version produced before Winchester went under. It's certainly more desirable than the crossbolt safety guns, but still has the rebounding hammer and is not as desirable as a pre-safety gun.

The Trapper version and the .45 Colt caliber make it more valuable, I'd guess it's worth between $400-500 depending on location.

Wow, I had no idea that the tang mounted safety was done after the cross bolt safety. I had assumed the ugly cross bolt safety the final nail in the Winchester coffin. Thanks for the info!

A couple of months ago, I came across one in a pawn shop. It was immaculate, sans box, with crossbolt safety. They were asking $800.

ETA: it was a .45LC, as well

Bought mine new for $225 (1999). They are worth a bit more now. At one time you would see prices up to $800, but not anymore. They are SELLING for $500 to $600.
