Winchester 94 post 64, needs work. What is the most you'd pay?
The rifle stock dinged up pretty bad and all externals in need of refinishing. I cannot tell if there is a pin/screw missing but there is a small hole above the cartridge loading port.
The bore looked decent, though, and a buddy is going to test fire the rifle to see if she can still shoot.
The seller said they'd go no lower than $250.
As far as I can tell the rifle is a "standard" .30-30, not any sort of special addition or carbine model.
What says the hive?
I would have no problem paying $250 for any lever action Winchester as long as it shoots okay.

That's what I was thinking, especially when a refinish job would make it a $550 Winchester lever gun. I'm not worried about resale value, I just want something that I can actually bring hunting with next year, and that I can leave behind for my family.
Thats on the higher side of the price range IMO, at least for around here. If I had the money though I would probably get it

For a beater I'd be thinking $150-200 which is what they typically go for in my neck of the woods. For $250 I can get a pretty decent 94 without all the cosmetic issues.

Same here.
I just got a pre 64 in very nice shape for less than 500.00. I have seen post 64 fifle in this price range. if it shoots ok it would depend on how much you would have to put into it to get it looking and shooting it the way you wan't it.
Sounds like its in pretty rough shape, I would be unlikely to pay more than around $200 for a rough one. Be aware that post '64 94 receivers usually come out purple when reblued, I would probably just clean it up and get it parkerized and/or coated (Duracoat, Cerakote, etc). If you can do the work yourself it might be worth it but if you have to sink another $200+ into it, I'd pass.
