Found a good looking used one in a local pawn shop, priced at $299.99. My question is, the forearm, stock, and lever all have a little wiggle to them, and the front sight looks like it needs to be replaced. Is the wiggle in the parts normal, and can the sight be replaced easily?

i have been thinking of selling mine - and that price doesnt seem that good based on the issues you pointed out- unless its a pre1964 model they demand a premium.. I was hoping for about that out of mine and it hadnt had a box of shells thru it..

The front side can be pushed out from the side

I'd pay that price if the finish was decent, but I dont know what they run in your area. Ive got one from 65 and one from 72, have fired a few others and the lever always has wiggle. Its just something that comes with the territory. I dont know how much stock wiggle you are talking about, some wont hurt. It all depends on what you are using the rifle for? As pointed out the front sight replacement is easy enough.

Get the AGI gunsmithing DVD pertaining to that rifle. It'll give you a great education on what you are looking at. The price seems okay to me, and it just sounds like the gun needs a fluff and buff.

The lever should have a little play in it, that is normal and as designed. The buttstock and forearm should not "wiggle" at all.

I was at my FFL today picking up my stripped ar lower and he had one in his rack. Its in solid shape but someone duracoated the barrel and feed tube a matte black. The wood is in very good shape and action feels good. Who ever did the duracoat did a professional job and does not appear there was any rust pitting prior to the duracoat. Does this finish ruin the value of this gun? He was asking $215 and when I asked if he would do $200 OTD he agreed. Since I was already picking up the lower he added the 94 to the 4473 form and I was OTD with more than I had expected..
Is $200 a fair price for a 94(30/30)? I will look at the serial # to figure the year, and will post pictures tomorrow or asap.

Sorry didn't take any pictures but did check the serial...38XXXXX...which indicates its a 1973. I believe it is worth the $200 I gave. I really love the feel and action of these cowboy rifles.

I'd say that you got a great deal. It is my opinion, fwiw, that Duracoat or other coatings, if done correctly, can either add years of life to an old rustbucket, or wipe away years of precious patina, thusly bringing the value down to rock bottom. I "rescued" an old 94 in 30-30 that was really rusted badly. I stripped it completely and blasted it inside and out with 120 mesh AO, and gave her a new dress made out of KG Gunkote.... coyote brown! I refinished the stock and gave her a new firing pin and some springs. Great gun now!

Backwoodz, It sounds to me like you got yourself a good user, but not a collectable. This is probably how the shop owner felt as well.

Yeah that's how I feel. I did not buy it as a collector gun. I did not even research the model before I bought it. I was unaware of the pre/post 64 changes till after I brought it home.
I love the feel of this 94 and love that rattle sound they make while just carrying it around. It just feels and speaks old west.

my 1972 model 94 has zero wiggle. I would be a bit concerned about that if I were you.

The lever has 0 wiggle. Thats hard to believe just by how its designed.

I've never seen or even heard of one with no wiggle. I'd be concerned if it didn't wiggle based upon it's design.

Forearm wiggle is OK. Lever wiggle is normal. The butt stock should be solid!

The winchesters will sound like a box of bolts when you shake it. A marlin won't rattle at all.

Tighten up the butt and have fun with it!
