Yesterday I bought a marlin 336 30-30. I've wanted one for a long time and it was a good deal. The serial number is 71 205xxxx. From what I've read this means its a 1971 model.

My question is the entire front sight is gone, where can I get a new base, hood, post, screws etc? I saw them on midway but I don't know what is original to this rifle and if it needs short or long screws or a ramp front sight or what have you. Also; is there anywhere that sells screws to plug the receiver holes for mounting a scope base? This has a weaver mount on it that I wont be using.

It is in excellent shape and I can't wait to take it out. Just gotta have some way to aim with it.

Sounds like a great time to upgrade to the XS sights and/or scope mount.
