From what I understand door frames are made of two 2x4s. Anyone ever hear of anyone using a hardwood, like oak, to build the frame instead of pine?
I see no advantage of using a hardwood to frame in a door, only by increasing the dimensions like going to a 2x6 or so would increase the strength
I figure oak is stronger than pine, but not strong enough (without reinforcements) to prevent someone from forcing the door open.

The plan is to still reinforce the jamb with steel, however why not upgrade the frame if it's new construction?
