i need to get a new garage door, i want to get one with windows in the top row of the garage door, but then people can see in . there are no other windows in the garage, so i like the idea of extra light when I'm out there. ( its an attached garage to my ranch style house, only a front door and a walk out patio door beside the garage entry to the house, basically three doors into the house) I've been in the house for ten years so i know the area. never really had a problem with security / vandalism but i don't want to create an opportunity. i am leaning toward windows and then if its to easy to see in put a dark tint on them - maybe. so would you get windows or not?

I had the guy who tints my car windows come over and tint mine, I can see out but w/limo tint no one can see in and the sun is controlled too, win win.

You can do whatever you want to the windows, but it won't keep some stupid little sh!t from breaking them.

I live in a nice quiet area and still don't like the idea of windows on a garage door. You might never have a problem, but if you did you would be kicking yourself. Don't kick yourself.

I'm building a new detached garage but the doors are about 10" tall - I'm lucky to be able to put windows in the top of the door above where one could easily see in. I want the light.

Since it's a ranch house, and presumably there is nothing built on top of the garage, why not put in a skylight instead?

I have a very similar home and area in TX. I went with an abundance of T8's and kept the overhead door windowless and secure. Another note, remove the release cord so they cannot use a coat hanger to put it from the outside. I also had an electrician wire the garage door opener to a switch inside the home. If someone tries to break into the cars to hit the garage door opener, we have it turned off from inside.

i went with the windows in the top row of the garage door. i love the light it lets in while i work on projects out there. i will be putting some type of privacy tint on them in the near future.
