Possible Idea for distraction for thieves.

I have a Sentry Gun Safe I don't use anymore.. It's in my basement which is finished but not out in the open but easy enough to find towards the back of the basement area. I don't keep anything in it anymore as I've since secured a room and have now started to use that. I had a idea the other day that it would make a hell of a distraction of would be thieves if they were to ever ransack my house.

Where I live break ins are more likely going to be tweakers looking for fast cash as for the secured room if they new where it was and what it was made of and brought special tools they could still get in it in 30 minutes to a hour. I figured with the safe still sitting where it is I could put junk in it and let them beat on it all day or take it off thinking they scored only to get screwed. On the other hand if they do see the safe but don't do anything they might want to come back later and finish the job which might put myself in danger.

What do others think of this idea?

Unbolt it from the floor, fill it with bricks, and leave a substandard furniture dolly next to it.

with one squared off wheel

Yea, I'm in constant distress over security. Can never have enough. I think the safe is a perfect distraction.

Why not sell the safe, and use the profits to update strengthen and re-evaluate the homes protection.
Maybe update the weak points in the house, update the main entry point locks. Add a Door jamb enforcer, or replace the door's with higher grade one's.

Or go one step further and add a home security system or outside company. Motion sensors, full security camera set up.

The way I see it, is if you are already in the house, your preventative plan has failed. And I think using a safe as a decoy, yeah might help with their focus, but I'm sure the mind of a thief works differently than our's.

Put some junk guns, as in will-not-fire, in it. That way it might help keep them from looking any farther.

I thought about selling but I work from home so I'm here 100% of the time unless we run out to grab something to eat or a gun show someone is here all the time. My house is only 5 years old so I already have the higher grade doors and all windows are triple pane with security locks. I have thought about doing the strike plates on the door jams and I would like to get the deadbolts that have key locks instead of the turns. I know its against fire code where I am but I could switch them if I were to move or rent it out.

Instead of security cameras I went for game cameras less obvious and hidden well. My house sits back down a 600 foot driveway so its not easily accessible and I also have dogs already. Nieghbors are not too far and can see if anyone is around too.

bolt it down.
Leave it unlocked.
Put a couple of those tripwire pepper spray units and an alarm sensor in it.

Dig a 200 ft. deep hole in front of it and hide under a nice cowhide rug.

I have a small floor safe, not bolted down, easy to find, full of bricks, for this exact reason.
