Ok forum, what type of pistol storage systems do you guys use in your safes.

I want a system where I can get the most pistols lined up side by side. I have 2 shelves to devote to pistols, about 36" across.

Midway had some pretty good options but they looked kind of cheap. I don't want a door mounted system for hanging my pistols.

Please give me some ideas.

thanks

I have two of these in one of my safes:

They work pretty well. There is a rubber tip on the end of the piece that the handgun barrels slide onto, and you can
remove the tip for (careful) use with .22s. I have everything from a NAA mini revolver to a 8 3/8" L frame Smith on these racks and
they have performed admirably.

I made some for my safe out of maple. I also made a set for a customer. They really saved a lot of room. I don't know how to post pictures or I would.

I did this. Super Easy, Cheap and you can do it how ever you want. Won't scratch the barrels. The only modification is the steel that he uses will not fit a .22 barrel so adjust to the smaller size if you have some .22 you want to store. Use the smaller steel only for the .22's or you will get flex. the 1911 fits fine no sag etc on the standard steel.

I have a bunch of these from Midway. I took out the plastic rods that hold them together and replaced them with 1/4" threaded rods so now I have three sets that are bolted together. The racks do an awesome job of holding a wide variety of pistols and a very nice feature is there is enough room beside the pistol so you can place a couple magazines if you want. For example I have a couple correct magazines for a 1918 1911 that I keep beside the pistol.

I use dish racks I bought 2 from a flea market for $.50 - my wife though I was crazy when I bought them. We went to the sportings good store and she was amazed at how similar they were.

I did a rack like this as well. Super easy, doesn't steal any shelf space. My safe is only 15" wide and it can fit 8 pistols under the shelf.

I am always interested in craftsmanship. If you want to email me one or two pics, I will be happy to post them on your behalf in this thread.

I made this for a customer. He has a lot of revolvers and to make storage easier we came up with this layout. This is made out of maple and includes matching shelves.

Another variation of the same thing. To spend $1000 plus on a safe, thousands on firearms and then put your collection in a $3 dish rack? Sometimes how you display something is just as important as what you display.

Display? I don't live in a museum. The OP wanted to maximize space.

eta:

It was tough to get a good picture in the small space with the dark colors, but here is my dishrack (complete with tupperwear):

Ive tried most types and these are the best..You can store mags, holsters & speed loaders under the guns to save alot of room and keep things organized..They adjust easily to fit all shelves heights by simply bending the wire..I got 4 of them at the gun show for $25..

I use pistol hangers (didn't get them from this shop, but this is what they look like)

pistol hangers

Leaves the shelf open for mags (or more pistols laying on their sides )
