Cellular or IP monitoring via personal cell phone?

Can you guys fill me in on this technology? Looking at getting a new alarm system to replace my old one as it is crap so I am open to all brands. Would like to add a way to call my cell phone instead of monitoring preferably without using my phone jack so I can totally dump the phone line altogether. But mainly, I can almost see my house from work and in my neighborhood there have been like 30 - 40 smash and grabs and the alarm monitoring is useless as the cops are like 10 minute late. They even broke into two different houses that have a LEO across or beside the house.

My alarm is located near the phone jacks, wireless, and power so additional equipment wiring should be simple.

I have done all the basic stuff like detering theft, hardening the house and adding multiple layers of security inside - need to go to the next level.

You can use vonage or maybe even Verizion's home system.

I have a setup that uses a tmobile prepaid sim card and sends me +6 other people texts when it goes off. I cannot for the life of me remember what brand it is.

A coworker is a former alarm installer and he said the problem is the there is no handshake between my phone and the system so all it will do is just keep ringing my phone with a fax sound. He has been doing other things for a year now, so he was going to ask around and see what technology exists.

Text doesn't currently work as I have no text on my phone. I can turn it back on though. Disabled it with ATT as I never use it.

I just picked up a UNITED SECURITY AD2001 Auto Voice Dialer to connect to my existing Vista panel. We'll see what happens.

How are you going to be using it land line or cell? One site had some mixed reviews about longevity.

I think it's one of the only few options.

The best thing since sliced bread!!!!!

A great system is a Text Alert system which uses a sim card to send text messages to your cell phone. "Text alert" is a system which was designed in South Africa and imported by Cross Point Industries out of California. The system uses wireless PIR's (motion sensors) to monitor areas and send signals to a reciever/transmitter with a SIM card. This system uses the same PIRs as "Voice Alert" and both systems can run simutaneously.

Cost......around $500 for the Text Alert reciever, Monthly cell phone bill for Text only (mine is $10.00) and an additional $80 for each PIR.

Check these out, they are much cheaper than a Vsta 20 Ademco system.

I can go this route as I already have text just have to go by ATT to reactivate it as I had it blocked.
