72" + tall gun safes
I am looking for a tall safe. I am 6'4" and 60" safes seem short. My other limits are 36" max width and 28" max depth (or I have to pull the door jam.)
What is better safe , with in these size limits in the $2000 to $2500 range?
Thanks.
Edit- I guess 83" is max height.
Unless your trying to fit a Barrett in a 60" your good. I have a 60" safe from Cabela's and it is more than enough, I'm 6'2". I don't remember the exact dimensions but I have the 48 gun model and fit through a 36" doorway coming in from my garage.
Most of the 72" tall safes are going to be wider than 36". Also keep in mind that the higher you're up in the air, the hotter it's going to be in a fire. As far as safes go, shorter is better when it comes to fire protection.
My goal is to have two shelves above the rifles for other storage.
Superior Safe
Supreme Series S-35
34"×67"×25½"
Just wanted to mention the other reason people want tall safes are for black power weapons, long rifles and muskets are often too tall to fit in the average safe.
This looks great size wise. Quaility?

I expect that would be in your price range delivered. I have the 4' wide model. Very nice. Good fireproofing, about the thickest plate in the "residential security container" category. I can fit my 50BMG upright in it with clearance for a shelf full of ammo on the bottom.
imho, as good as it gets.....
also.....mine has 2 shelves above the rifle rack....the lower of these has a cutout so longer rifles shotguns barrels will still fit......
Not sure what part of SC you are in, but you should look into Drake Safes. Greg Drake is a safe maker in Roxboro NC that makes his safe walls and doors out of 1/4" steel. He will give you a tour of his shop and show you how his safes are made. He'll also show you a bunch of defeated safes from other companies and how they were made. I would compare the looks of their standard safes to be something like a Sturdy. He does does custom interior and exterior finishes, but his standard exterior is a textured black finish with gold pinstriping. Doors fit tight and close tight enough you can't pull a dollar bill out of a door that's closed on it and that's without a seal. The safes all have a relocker. He will do any custom size, but looking at his brochure he has one to your dimensions already. 71 3/4" x 36 3/4" x 25 1/4" It has 3 top shelves and weighs 1,350 lbs. Cost is $2,250. He goes to most of the gun shows in NC and has great customer service!
I've got the 40"wide/ tall model and love it. The extra height is great for storing all the extra misc stuff like scopes, pistols, rangfinders, jewelry, etc. I've got 3 friends that just bought his safes, and I know several others that have had them for years, and all are extremely satisfied with their safes.
PM me your email and I'll send you a scan of his brochure.

In his price range WITHOUT the fire lining.

I hadn't heard of this one before, but just looked at the pics on their facebook page and LOL at the safe some crooks dragged down a road trying to get open.
Does the Drake Safe, have a website, i did not see anything when i looked in yahoo.
Unfortunately Drake doesn't have their own website. As mentioned above, he does have a facebook page that has some photos on it. I know he'd get a ton more business if he had a good website, but he may have all the business he needs. He is well known in NC for his quality safes.
Here is another AR15 thread about Drake and some pictures.

Here is a link to a store that sells some of his safes with photos and info.

I have the Sturdy 3627-6, it is super nice to have the two shelves over the rifles. The safe holds everything of value except the dog.

Stack-on beats Sturdy???
Tell you what, I'm feeling generous - I'll trade you my Stack-on for your Sturdy, straight up (but the dog stays with me).

From what I understand that is the case - for the amount of manpower the shop has he sells enough w/o advertising to do well. I bought one of his safes while in NC and took it with me across the country when I moved out of the state. Greg is a heck of a nice guy and builds a quality product.
