 556 Lower Question

I have an original 556 ER lower (non-folding, AR buffer style stock). I'd like to have one of the new 556 lowers with the swiss folding stock (and still take the STANAG mags). Anyone know if SIG is selling these alone like they are selling the 551-A1 lowers? I'll call SIG CS tomorrow, just didn't know if someone knew.

Finally, I'm using an ASAP single point sling mount in my current configuration which I won't be able to use with the new lower. Anyone know if the new lower has a sling attachment point? I haven't looked at them to know.

Of course, that means I'll have even more $ sunk into this rifle, but I still love the damn thing.

There are a couple of dealers on Gun Broker that sell teh Sig 556 lowers with the Swiss stock. I actually prefer the 551A1 stock myself.

I'm with the poster above me. I already have other ARs and am looking at my Sig 556 Pistol (now SBR) as something new. I was turned off by the different magazines at first, but it's really not that big of a deal. I'll just order an extra magazine every month and I'll have enough for my use in no time without breaking the bank.

I'm still waiting on my lower to arrive (won it on Gunbroker), but I would either call Sig USA and order a complete lower from them, or try to find a 551-A1 lower on Gunbroker. If you want the Swiss stock, then you'll either have to have a Classic lower or a 551-A1 lower. Classic lowers on Gunbroker are running over $500 with the lower and stock. You can get the 551-A1 from Sig USA for about $400 with the stock and a magazine.

The other option, though it doesn't get you the Swiss stock, is the Ace folding stock adapter and one of their stocks. It will work with the AR stock attachment on the ER and get you a folding (though not Swiss) stock without spending $400 or so on a new lower.

I did both. I got in a 551 lower during the promotion and purchased the ACE folder parts and have a Magpul UBR stock for that.

In true ARFcom fashion...

I put the ACE folding parts on there, but just didn't like them. They are definitely solid and work well, though. I liked how the spring would keep the stock folded pretty securely without it having to attach to the rifle.

Someone emailed me that they wanted to see how the 556 looks with the Magpul UBR stock on it. It is heavy but I like the balance of the gun and the weight doesn't bother me although I am considering ways to lower the optics weight with something different.

556 Classic lowers have a part number in the 2012 catalog. You just have to wait.
