 Sig 556 Spare Parts

One of the great things about owning an AR15 is the abundance of spare parts that are easily obtainable. I have extra springs, plungers, extractors, ejectors, bolts, etc etc.

Just how easy is it to get the typical spare parts for the bolt (ejector/extractor, springs, etc) for the Sig 556???

I've really been bitten by the Sig 556 "Classic" bug as of late and I'm really close to buying one. I'm just digging for some feedback is all.

The one I have in my sights is for $1250 from a local owner, supposedly unfired. Good price?

Look at the Sigsauer website store. You wil see a spare parts kit,.... it is very incomplete and thats all there is..

Sig Sauer doesnt want you to have shit until it breaks. I have tried again and again to get them to sell me spare parts for my 522 and recently witjh my 556 but they will not. You have to wait for it to fuck up first. Or lie...

The current going price for a standard Classic (no rails, etc) with the swiss folding stock is somewhere around $1000 NIB. I have seen them as low as $925, but the $975-$1000 range is more common. My local pawn shop has brand new Classic rifles for $1199, and that is the price as marked, he will go a lot lower. I wouldn't pay $1250 for a 556 Classic that is used, unfired or not.

If you find any please post. I've seen a few standard 16" on COlorado Gun Sales but thats about it. I called Sig to see if theyd sell me a 18" DMR barrel assembly and they said no. As posted above Sig doesnt sell many parts.

I should just call them and ask. But in your case, did you get the spares you wanted? Were the parts priced sky high? I'd really like to get at least 1 extra set of spare parts, namely the extractor/ejector, and any other little parts that are susceptible to breaking (trigger parts, hammer parts, etc). I've looked over the websight as you suggested, but obviously they dont have individual parts listed. Thanks-

Thats what i am saying.. if it is not on the site for sale.. they will not sell it to you. they will only replace the stuff if it breaks.

Parts that break? I have never heard of anything breaking in a SIG556...These rifles are not AR15s....They are losely based on the AK47 platform. You can sometimes find parts on Gunbroker like complete bolts and such, but I have never felt the need to buy one....

You silly goof, ALL things mechanical break down. On rifles such as these (AK's, AR's, Sig's, FAL's, etc etc) the extractor, ejector, and the tiny springs and plungers associated with them are worked hard and are subject to heavy wear and tear (and breakage). When (not "if", but when) they break it is real nice to be able to break it down right then and there and swap out the broken parts. If Sig is going to pull an ego trip and not sell spare parts then poop on them. That is the thing about AR15's, if something breaks it is easy to swap out and get back up and running.

While this is very true, I personally saw some REALLY old AKs that had most likely never had any real maintanence done to them(except maybe the oil off the dipstick trick) in my various deployments between Iraq and Afghanistan. And they were working just fine. By old, I mean specifically a pair of pre-milled receiver AK47 (aka type 1) and a 1951 dated milled AKS. Yeah they didn't have much for finish still on them, but they were still working. I have yet to see another weapons system THAT durable(except perhaps the odd Enfield or Mosin).

I also saw a Sig 543 in Iraq that had had a fairly hard life, but was still running along. Given the rarity of that type over there(that was the only one I ever saw), I'd bet spare parts were not easy to come by. From the look of it, it had also had had very light maintanence, if any, and hard use. But it was still quite operational in spite of this.

Point to all of this, while you probably should have some spare parts for whatever you have, you are far more likely to need them with some weapons vs others.

Those small parts that do wear are available from SIG. My point is like the AK platform, parts like Bolts and Carriers do not break like they do on AR15s. If you have heard of anything such as lower parts(pins, hammers, triggers) or upper parts(carrier, bolt, piston) failing on the SIG556 platform let me know, cause I would like to see it....
