New Sig 551 lower WOW
I just received my 551A1 lower today. Man, the trigger is outstanding!!! Better than any otehr 556 I have. What a deal for $369
The two tone combined with my 556 upper looks cool.
Epic fail.........
No pics

I have been toying with a 551-A1 lower for my Patrol. WE NEED PICS!!!!!!
CANt load pics from here at work. The Sig ad shows it bets. At 369 its a no brainer. This is the best trigger I have ever felt on a Sig. I'm putting this lower on a classic SWAT. I'm going to order another one for my Patrol SWAT.
You can all the mags you want for 37.80 each

These don't take standard AR mags?
No, They take the original; Sig 550 mags. There are plenty of Sig 550 mags around. Everybody gets so hung up on AR mags. I actually like the AR in 308 better than the 5.56 and almost all of them made take different mags. I think a lot of people somehow think if the world ended there would be a vending machine on every corner dispensing AR15 mags. I've got around 80 AR 15 mags and I've yet to break or wear one out.

I agree that people are way to fixated on magazine interchangeability, but my complaint about the 551-A1 lower isn't the different magazine, but the magazine that (at best) costs 3x that of a AR magazine. I would also like to see the 20 round version available, as that length is much better suited to shooting on at a bench or prone. I haven't decided whether or not to get a 551-A1 lower yet or not, but if I did, I would feel like I would need ten magazines for it. That could easily add $400 to the total cost. That $400 could be another complete upper, most of a good quality handgun, or two tax stamps. So, I'm not sure if it is worth it to me for the better appearance than the 556 lower. Perhaps I will just buy the Lancer translucent AR mags.
I somewhat agree. The Pmags with windows are $18 each. The Sig 550 mag is $37.80 but the one thing I like most about the 551 lower is the mag release. Lancers are a mixed bag. I have somw that are very good and some no so good. I like the AUG mags which are all but indisturctable adn the see ammo part is great. Sig sells the 20 rnd for the same price as the 30 rnd 37.80. Think about if pmags or lancders had to be imported what the cost would be. I've got piles of AR mags from Aluminum to plastic and will never need to buy any more. I've got twenty 551 mags and will never need to buy any more of them.
And BTW yes you could buy two stamps for teh 400.00 but not the items that go along with them. I have a MAC 10 45ACP I bought in the seventies that cost $150.00 NIB which is less than the stamp. Now days that gun sells for around $3500.
Can you buy original swiss mags for 38$ in the USA??

For now, yes. Sig USA imported a lot of them recently, apparently. I bought 7 in December, and all had a production date of 2011/06, and are marked "demann-agch".
I talked with a guy at Sig in CS that I have talked with for a couple of years now. I ask and he said they have a LOT of Sig 551 mags in stock including the 20 and 30 rnd. I said what if I wanted 100 of them and he said no problem.
They take about 95$ for a single 30 rounder here in switzerland!!!! i think i will import mags from usa.......

I guess I will need to call Sig as when I ordered my 551 lower last week they said they didn't have any 20 rounders so I bought a few 30 to go along with the 1 it comes with. Typical Sig with the hit or miss CS.
How much are the 551 A1 lowers now guys? Still $369? Don't see them listed on the SigArms site anywhere.
I just got mine in and when I ordered it I asked if they were still honoring the special from December. It was $369 with one mag. Now mine isn't working right but I am sure a quick return to Sig will get it right in no time. They are very nice.

If you don't mind me asking, what is wrong with yours and how long did it take for you to get it? Does it have the roll pin in the mag release? I just ordered one last week.
Thanks
Frank
What was wrong with yours? I have tow now and both are 100% My second one had the best trigger I've ever had on a 551/556 rifle.
OK, I got my complete lower and 20 mags today for my SBR that I ordered exactly one week ago. This is really nice! Very well made and looks like stamped steel. Fit is excellent as is the trigger. The Swiss stock and mags are brand new. Not a mark on them. On the gun it is tight with zero movement. Ryan, the customer service agent I spoke with is also very good and pleasant. I was going back and forth but I am glad I got it and within seconds I can switch back to the AR lower. I would post pics but I am redoing the upper and old lower in SIG Grey ( duracoat). Get 'em while you can folks! This is a great deal.
Just a tip about finishes, Sig is using Cerakote on the 551-A1s.
The Duracoat will probably match just fine, but if you want to use the same thing that's already on the lower, these are the Cerakote numbers:
Cerakote Sig Dark Grey H-210Q
Cerakote Sig Dark Grey C-209Q
The C series is the ambient temperature cure variety.
I bought one of these lowers before Christmas, other than the colors not matching they look pretty sweet. I haven't had a chance to fire mine but so far i'm impressed with the purchase. Now I need to call up SIG and order more mags.

This was my exact experience except I didn't order 20 mags because I am not rolling in fat stacks of cash like

Oh dude, I used my welfare benefit check to get these 'cuz my alcohol/crack/meth quota for the month was used up.

Seriously, That is alot of money and I did have to think about letting it go but I had the cash on hand because it was to go for another project that I had been saving for for about 8 months but it fell through and I feel in the coming months the mags may get really pricey. So I got these before they are $95 again. Just look at the UMP mags. If you can
even get them 6 months ago they were $45 a pop. Now they are selling for $125+.
I could be wrong though.
I'm buying them up while I can. There are thousands out there but if Obama gets electeed again they will shoot through the roof. Even Pmags

Thank you for that tip. The grey on the lower 551-A1 is real close but is not quite the grey on the Swiss guns. The Duracoat Sig-grey is a perfect match to the Swiss finish and does not match up with the 551-A1 grey. As a matter of fact the 551-A1 grey is similar to the small thin line at the top of this reply post box containing the words "posted" and the Sig-grey more like the larger box containing the body of text of this reply.
One last note. The Swiss receiver pins and the ones MFI sells
will not fit on the 551-A1 lower. They are too short. They work on the Classic and earlier AR magwell 556 but no dice on the A1.
Seriously, I'm either stupid or stupid, but I know I'm frustrated.
I cannot find where t buy the 551-A1 lowers. Please...help this 'tard!

Don't degrade yourself, I didn't even know about these until I read through some old posts from Nov. 2011! You just call Sig USA and ask for Ryan. He will set you up.

I was going to call Sig on Monday, but I bid for a 551-A1 lower on Gunbroker and actually won. That's great, but I didn't think I'd win. Now I'm frantically selling unused crap in my safe to soften the blow.
