I handled a 551 A1 the other day and liked it. I have a LNIB Bushmaster XM15 2ES ((M4ish) that I've never warned up to. Matter ofI fact, I;m not a big fan of the AR platform. I prefer the AK gas system like in my IMI Galil and the FNC I had back in the day.
While I know this is the Sig rifle forum, do you'all feel that a NIB 551 A1 is worth the Bushmaster in trade + say $700.00? The gun ship has a number of NIB 551 A1s so I'll have my pick. Anything I need to be looking for or checking? Also, is the bore and chamber chromed lined?
I know the Sig 551 A1 is rock and lock and that the mags aren't cheap.
Thanks,
It would be a good trade. I hav both and my 551A1 is my favorite. The mags are available from Sig for $38.50 each. I prefer the 556/551 platform and the 516 is what I use for the AR. I'm partial to the Ar 10 types in 308 for an Ar style weapon.
Sounds good to me. I don't expect the 551 A1 to be around forever. On the other hand, you will always be able to get an AR, well, at least until you can get a Pulse Rifle or a Phase Plasma Rifle in a 60 watt range.
As far as I know all the 556 barrels are not chrome lined. They are Melonited.
And I would not trade the AR for a SIG. If you absolutely hate it then trade it. I hated my AR with all the tactical crap on it. Mostly all my AR's now are iron sighted, no rails with Magpul furniture. I sold my SIG556 because it was too front heavy and the iron sights suck. I hear SSG mags are available but considering the price and availability of STANAG mags, I would think hard about the 551.
My 551A1 shoots as good as any of my AR's and Sig now has 551 Mags for 38.50 each. All you wnat. The 551 balances great and functions flawlesley.

Anyway, I don't see what you are geting all emotional about. Who the fuck called you out. I said "GROWN MEN" complaining about a 10 pound carbine (when other rifles are much heavier and made of steel and wood) being carried in combat and not just some weekend warrior shooting because he wants to and not because he has to. There's no reason for an American male not to adapt his body to a weapon. If it's heavy lift weights. If you still can't manage, get something lighter
Apparently you couldn't manage. Happy New Year.

And apparently your in depth investigation missed where I said in past posts that since I started using a SUPPRESSOR, it was too front heavy and was not worth it on the SIG556. (ETA: Because shooting suppressed is a priority to me.) I also said it was too front heavy for just about everybody else who shot it.

I am not feeling either option, so I'm selling it and SBR'ing either the patrol or pistol model.

At first I was okay with the front heavyness. But after seeing hardly nobody I let shoot it liked it because the poor balance and sights, It kind of soured me on the whole design.
