and WOW! did it feel good:) Been wanting a 556 for sometime although I was a little put off by the original offerings. I got this at what I considered a decent price, although a Classic was what I was really wanting. Question to the crew here, can the real Swiss furniture be retro fitted to the Swat models? It does appear that the top rail is one piece so I'm figuring that will have to be changed too.

Great gun! I bought one in 09 and then one a few monts ago on sale at mu local dealer. The Classic SWAT is rock solid. Great accuracy and when you get used to the balance it is almost unbeatable. I'm looking for a 556R 7.62X39 that has the new Swiss furnature. I saw one a few weeks ago but it had the regular SIg folder on it.
Yeas the SIG 551 furniture is compatible with the 556 SWAT.
Here is my 556 Classic that started life as a SWAT model.
Yes you will have to get a short receiver rail since you will lose the current one as it is part of the handguard. Just make sure you get the right one for the number of screws your receiver rail has. Some early versions had 4 screws, but most have 3 screws.
The front end of the 551 handguards fit pretty loose in the gas block, but this is easily fixed by cutting a plastic zip tie to length and tucking it into the gap between the end of the handguard and the groove in the gas block. Here is a pic of it on my 522. It stays put well, and makes no permanent changes to the gun or the handguard.

At C_Swimm's suggestion I have done the same thing with the zip tie and it works great.
