I never thought I would mention Botach as a source for parts, but they have the ITAC "AR spec" rear sight for $99.95 delivered. Throw the bottom half in your junk box, and the top part is identical to the SIG diopter rear sight provided with Classic rifles.

It is the same ITAC brand diopter that comes on a lot of the SIG556 already. Mine has the drum slip on occasion, so I can't say I am overly impressed with it.

Identical quality, and even says Sig Sauer on the left side. I bought one for $114 or so from another vendor a while back. The one which came on my Swat Classic and the one from ITAC both zero'd easily and hold zero fine. If the elevation drum moves too easily it would be a good idea to paint a white witness mark so you can tell if it shifted.

It is pretty easy to tell when it shifts off where it is supposed to be when I go to look through the rear peep and all I see is solid gray metal.

I thought you were having the elevation drum shift. Yeah, if the range drum moves it is very obvious!

SOrry if it wasn't clear, yeah the elevation stays fine, but the range drum is what rotates, and yeah it is pretty obvious when it happens!

The iTAC version I bought a while back was also marked SIG-Sauer. The sight worked fine, but I agree that the drum was too loose and easy to move. All in all, it was an OK sight, but not as good as it should have been. I recently replaced it with a TA01 NSN ACOG. I don't see going back to the diopter sight.

I know the 556 rifle has gotten mixed reviews, but mine has been flawless. However, the quality of the accessories, even those billed as "factory" has been seriously lacking IMO.

From what I have seen SIG's optics that they include on the rifles and some of their accessories appeasr to be rebranded aisoft parts.

Would have been a lot easier for them to just give us a Swiss-style rifle to begin with.....

I still maintain I would take one of these off someone for the right price. I am not a fan of the Popsicle rear flip up i am using but after handling the diopter and the quality I wont pay $100. Plus Id rather help my fellow Arfcomer out before Botach lol

Apparently those SIG inspired 55X series sights will not be available from MFI next month. The set was going to retail at around $380.00 for the front/rear but I guess there was another problem with the supplied parts. Hopefully these problems will be worked out, and we can get good quality copies in the near future without spending upwards of $700.00 or more on authentic Swiss sights.

As much as I sympathize with MFI's problems, they've been advertising this sight rail for literally three years and nothing yet has come to fruition. I remember being very excited back in 2008 upon seeing their concept, as I too wanted to add nice 55x sights to my rifle. But, the date kept getting pushed back and pushed back. I eventually went with Aurora sights, which aren't perfect, but are at least usable and were available. How does a tiny company like Aurora get a product to market when MFI cant? The dealings I've had with MFI have all been pleasant and professional, but I can't help think how amatuerish this situation is. You've been talking about this for three years and you still can't produce anything!?

You might as well pony up $700 for sights. If history is any indicator, MFI will never deliver on their rear sight rail.

I felt the same about the MFI's. He had problems with the rails this time according to the email. Anyway, too bad, they sounded great. Maybe he'll just do clamp ons.
I went woth Aurora's too. You can still get them, just email Derek directly. My only complaint with the Aurora's are the front sight adjustment screw. Trying to get a roll pin there was impossible. I just reused my factory sig adjustment screw and pin. My front sight took a small bit of hand fitting. I'm ham fisted, and if I can do it, anyone can.

On the current swiss ones, you either have to get the weld on ones, or the ones with the included receiver rail. To install the rear, you have to grind down the rear most rail screw boss. The rail then attaches to the remaining 2 screw bosses. Also, you have to order a swiss front sight to go with it. The whole setup is around 700ish. Too much for me. If the set was under 5 I would have gone for it.

Oh, and I don't really dislike the sig diopter, it's just a bit too big, and kinda has a loose feel to its adjusments. I shot well with it though.
