I just picked up a new 556 classic and the handguard is a little loose. There is about a millimeter of back & forth movement to it. Is this normal or is mine screwed up? Thanks
I cut a zip tie and stuffed it between the gas block and the handguard. Tightened it right up. Got the suggestion from C_Swimm. I couldn't remember who until I saw the next post. Thanks C_Swimm, it works great!
I cut a zip tie and tucked it in around the handguard in the gas block. Nice and snug now. Zip tie even stays in place when hans guards are removed.
can some one please post a pict of your mods to tighten up the handguards myine are very loose and next thing on the list was to work on them. Last issue I need to solv with my classic.
I would like to see a picture of the zip tieghten method and what size tie to get. Thanks
Mine are really loose. I like it though...easy to take them off and put back on.

All you have to do is cut a black plastic zip tie to length and tuck it in around the end of the handguard inside the gas block. The first time I did it I clipped the "buckle" end off first and fed it in starting at the bump inside the gas block (see pics below) and when it got around close to the other side of the bump where I started I marked it and clipped it to length and tucked the rest in. Once it's fully in, you will barely notice it's there.
Helpful hint: The Zip tie has a natural curve to it. If you go against the curve as you bend it around the handguard while tucking it in, it creates a sort of tension against the inside of the gas block. This serves to keep it in place if you ever have to remove the handguards. Then you can put the handguards back on without having to tuck the zip tie in again. It stays put quite nicely.
