If you run the stock SIG grip, Hogue Hand-all is a HUGE improvement!

Fellow 556 owners.

Just for kicks I bought a Hogue Hand-all universal grip (the one they advertise for Glocks), and decided to throw it on my 556 SWAT, which currently has the Sig grip.

I found the grip to be a bit thin for my liking, and also a bit slick if it gets wet.

Oh my god, the hand-all grip makes a 100% difference in how this grip feels, I cannot possibly express how much of an improvement this makes to the rifle.

If you have a 556 with the factory grip on it, do yourself a favor and spend the $10 on this very cheap upgrade. Especially because these rifles are a bit on the heavy side (when compared to a DI AR build), this makes all the difference in the comfort and control of this rifle.

You won't be sorry.

Install tip: I ran hot tap water over mine before installation, it makes the rubber softer and much easier to stretch over that bottom lip on the Sig 556 grip. Just quickly dry it off before you install and you are GTG.

I gave this some thought about 2 months ago when looking at the Hogue grips in a gun shop....but figured that since it was for a pistol it wouldn't slide over the rather fat-bottomed SIG grip.

I stand corrected. Thanks.

I tried it with the grip at room temp and it was pretty tough, so I warmed it up and it got MUCH easier.

I suppose setting it in direct sunlight for a few minutes would work just as well.

Before I tried this, I was looking for an ergo grip for an AR, figured I'd need to mod it to fit the Sig...now I'm no longer searching.

I run Hogue grips on all of my training/defensive ARs, and a hand-all on my USP45...

Meanwhile, I've been bitching long and loud over the fact that Hogue doesn't make a finger groove grip for the Sig...

...This is certainly one of those D'oh! moments

Thank you for pointing this out. Does anyone know of a place where you can order one that won't charge nine bucks for shipping a ten dollar part? Just received a huge Brownell's order yesterday-so now I feel kind of stupid.

Oh, and a hairdryer also works great for softening up and stretching a new hand-all. Once the rubber cools back down it will tighten up around the grip and stay put.

Wow, that almost sounds dirty-I need to get out more.

LOL that did sound a bit dirty.

In my case I grabbed one at a retailer (Gander Mountain), so the shipping wasn't really a factor.

However, you can hop on Amazon and see if the Hogue handall is actually sold BY amazon, and if so, you can get a free Amazon Prime trial and get it 2 day shipped for free.

I do enough buying on amazon that I actually pay for a Prime membership, as it more than pays for itself in shipping savings over the year.

An old trick many do (and I have done so before) is to boil some water. Throw the grip in AFTER its boiling. Leave it in for about 60 seconds. Pull it out with tongs and then install. It doesn't burn to touch.

It helps a lot. And, it shrinks after it cools down. Better fit.

Slightly off topic, but I have heard a Gapper will work with the standard grip. True?

Can't wait to see whatever this is hit the market. Not nearly enough accessories for this series of rifles out there, not enough competition.

Hopefully there is enough market. These rifles are not super popular on ARFCOM (no shocker) but there are tons of owners/shooters on sig forums.

The more the merrier!

I was stunned at the range a couple of weekends ago when I saw a couple of other shooters with Sig rifles. Obviously the two rifles I saw were of little significance statistically, but it was nice to not have the only Sigs on the firing line

I was at the range very recently and some guys said "Oh man, is that a Sig 556??? I've been really wanting to see one of those!".

It was cool just to see someone who knew what it was. Mostly people say "Strange looking AR you have there".

I used the Hogue slip-ons for a Colt .45 Auto and they fit nicely after I removed a little slice on the backstrap with a razor:

I can't say anything more at the moment except keep watching and there should be more info with real content in a couple of weeks.

Totally off topic, but what rings are those on your rifle?
