I know Co Gun Sales has the 550/551 stock and are out of the PE90 stocks, are there any other options?

www.mfiap.com

This company has some SIG556 stocks in the works and some other interesting items as well. I have ordered from them before and the products are of excellent quality.

Thanks NC_Andy. I never heard of those guys, but they seem to have some cool stuff. Hopfully they are working on a 550 style stock for the Classic receiver, there prices were really good.

I am not really sure if there is a difference, the PE90 might be a little longer, but that might be an optical illusion based on the hand guard length.

The StGw90 is the Swiss military issue rifle.
The PE90 is the semi-auto civilian version in Switzerland.
The 550 is the Export designation for the same rifle
The 551 is a shorter "carbine" version of the 550
The 552 is the even still shorter "commando" version of the 550 series
The 553 is the same as the 552 except the oprod and recoil spring set-up is more like the 550 and 551
The 556 is a US made version based loosly on the 551

Excellent info, that should be in a tacked thread!

Great info. Does this mean 551 stock is shorter than 550 stock? And wouldn't that mean 550 and PE90 stocks are the same?

Stock lengths should all be the same. The stock on CoGun's site described as "PE90" is the older stock usually seen on guns with the "Double dimple" receivers. I don't remember where I read it, but when the rifle's stock was used to impact something hard (i.e. doors, enemy's body), the back of the metal receivers were suffering damage. Try again and take a closer look at the photos- The newer designed stocks have a vertical groove right behind the release button. This groove, which is on both sides of the stock, is the "Break away" feature.. It allows the stock to break and be damaged before the receiver does. Also look at the shape of the "Triangle" in the stock skeleton; That too is slightly different along the inside top of the triangle. Older 551 handguards are different also. Those handguards, and the stock advertised as a PE90, command top dollar to collectors due to there rarity.

Here is autoweapons' older double dimple with the older furniture.

Hope this info helps.

I think this site is swiss. I have a PE90. You guys in the US can't have them apparently.

Anyway message Rolf at Gunfactory.ch. He speaks english. Like everything associated with these swiss rifle, parts are expensive.

I have always wondered why the Swiss decided to cut out the center of the stock. It seems like a solid stock with internal storage would offer some benefits, and it does not appear a folded solid stock would block any of the controls any more than a "cutout" stock.

So what is the LOP on the folder shown above (non adjustable sidefolder)? The same as one of the newer 3 position folders when fully extended?

I'm not sure if it was the reason they skeletonized the stock, but when the stock is folded it can be used as a makeshift VFG.
