Micro red dot on a sig 556?
I want to buy a 556 classic. I want to remove the front sight and attach a Midwest Industries folding front sight and put my own rear BUIS on the back. Would a micro red dot such as the Bushnell or the Aimpoint line up right? Thanks.
I am guessing that the lack of response to your post is because no one (including myself) is quite sure if the red dot sites will line up. I use only an aimpoint ML2 on mine with the flip ups only as backups. The irons don't line up exactly with the dot but work fine since the Aimpoint has no magnification and does not impair my ability to see clearly downrange. I have the red dot zeroed at 100 meters and have learned to compensate for greater distances accordingly.
I have an Aimpoint H-1 on my 556 patrol using an ADM low mount. First off I think the Micro type sight in a low mount is just the right height on the SIG 556. I think the only sights it probably has a chance of co-witnessing with is probably the Aurora sights. I can't be sure as the only sights I have on it is the factory fold down front sight and the lolipop flip up rear sight. I am not big on co-witnessing. I like an uncluttered view through my optics, and only have the sights as a backup. With the optics in a throw lever mount, I can quickly remove it if I have to go to the back-up sights. This is why I like good quality optics. It makes the iron sights all but obsolete.
I'm using a sparc posted on the second page of this thread. The aimpoint micro in the adm mount was too low to properly cowitness with the sig sights on my rifle. David
