If one were to purchase a patrol model then were to SBR it, would if be possible to buy a factory pistol barrel for it instead of cutting down the 16" one?

yes or just get a sbr receiver to start with .

Well I'm planning on using a Swiss style lower and stock, so it wouldn't be very cost prohibitive to buy a factory SBR.
