I live in a smaller town and in our current economy I come across good deals semi regularly
a G21 lnib $300 last week
norinco SKS $125 couple weeks before

would it be possible to get an FFL to run an internet based business? no storefront no traffic maybe the occasional transfer for a family member or friend.
is this realistic?

I do live in a development with an association but UPS/FEDEX are there on a regular basis everyday anyways(the development not my house)
my wife buys from yard sales etc and sells on Ebay really there wouldnt be much difference except for the license logically

Your major hurdle will be obtaining municipal zoning approval and association approval to operate the business out of your home; you can rest assured that ATF will insist on sign-off from every level of authority that applies, right down to your landlord if you are a renter.

There's a big difference. Ebay doesn't call your HOA asking if it's ok for you to sell things out of your house. ATF will call your HOA asking if it's ok for you to do retail sales of firearms from your home. That phrase scares a lot of HOAs. If you're in an HOA, you're pretty much shit out of luck, but check over your deed restrictions and covenants just to see what they say. Your city's zoning will also have to allow for home based businesses. Again, ATF will call your local zoning department and as if "retail sale of firearms" is ok in a residential neighborhood.

if you check with both of those entities, and they say you're good to go (get it in writing), then you shouldn't have any issues.

Move out of the HOA.

Its one thing for the city to deny a license, but I wouldn't live where some silly organization would tell me what I can't or can do in my home. FFL or any other issue.

Yes, internet based business is a common business model.

However if your intent is to only to "occasional transfer for a family member or friend" that is not a business and your app would be denied.

it sounds to me like he wants to run a legitimate business on the internet, but the local customers would be the occasional transfer for friends/family.

that is what I do internet Sales and from time to time I do transfers in my home.

However I reside in a Private Area and have no HOA that could have gotten in my way. Also I am not in City Limits that made it much easier as well. If you have restrictions like some others said ATF will not approve your Application. They know full well what is allowed in your area and they will ask question to make sure you know.

Start 1st with finding out if your are allowed per HOA and than per City to run a business out of your Home

good luck

yes internet sales is the real intent with only an occasional transfer for friends/family. I have a friend of a friend on the HOA board and will be making a few casual comments to feel him out(not up) on the subject.

thanks for the comments guys wasnt sure the "Home FFL" was even really possible these days so this is encouraging

Read your HOA CCR's first. If they don't have a prohibition on running a business or engaging in commercial activity out of your home then you're fine. If they're not, you'll have to go to the board and get a letter from them permitting your business.
