How are you knifemakers doing your's? I want to paint my knives so I guess that rules out acid etching?
Painted does make life tricky. Laser would be an option for you, or stamped. just don't let the stamp maker tell you it will work after heat treating, it might, once or twice.
I use electroetching, but that won't work on a painted blade.
I'm currently waiting on my stamp. jpnkavu hooked me up with a good engraver for these purposes.

Have a link? What did it set you back?
I've yet to start any knife projects, but I'd like one to stamp my AK builds.
I use a jewelers pantograph and a diamond graver with a custom logo I put together.

Yup, just got off of the phone with Infinity Stamps. The customer service rep doesn't deny telling me it would be okay, but they won't make it right either.

However they agreed to send an instruction sheet with the stamps from now on and to stop telling people it is okay. Should have trusted my gut. Even with a knife blade of 60 RC, the stamp would need to be quite a bit harder to avoid damage.
Some makers heat the blade before stamping. Don't do that, lest your expensive and hardened stamp will become soft and deform.
