Anyone know if benchmade warranty covers second owner?
Thinking if buying a new in box yet previously owned benchmade. Curious about warranty though. Ty

Each new knife is packaged with written documentation of the Benchmade Warranty.
Benchmade Knife Company, Inc. warrants to the original owner that the knife will
be free from defects in materials and workmanship. Benchmade will without charge,
repair or replace at our (Benchmade's) option, any knife returned for Warranty work
and found to be defective by Benchmade.

That said is the warranty card filled out? I really doubt that if it was a true defect they would not fix it.
Just send it in.
(It doesn't have a serial number does it?)
ETA: Allow me to quantify my statement. I believe the good people at BM stand firmly behind their products and I believe even if you told them you got it off EBay or wherever, they'd still fix it.
Not sure bout sn is that bad??
Just sent three back two weeks ago... find an authorized dealer. No questions asked, plus, he does the packing and shipping. And you can pay the dealer instead of sending a money order or having to do a CC over the phone (for return shipping).

I'm saying they have no idea who's owned it, unless it's marked as say 735 of 1000 or similar. And even then only if they registered it.
Why not just call them? I bet they'll say send it in and fix it.
What knife and what's wrong with it?
Just thought about something... is it a black box benchmade?? If so, you'll need a department letter head (LEO) before they will fix it... (all their autos are black box FYI).
Nothing wrong with it. Its a just in case scenario.
its a black box. I think its considered a switch blade here in TX so I will pass. No use owning if I cant EDC it.
danged messed up editing & formating!!

This
is very incorrect information.
not all black
box knives are LEO/Mil only. My 950 Rift is a Black Class knife and
came in a black box, but it is a manual open folder. The 9555 Auto Rift is the
automatic opening version and restricted. The Black Class is marketed as geared
toward LEO/Mil use as far as function, but they are not all automatic knives.
From Benchmade's website:
To make things easier we have
segmented the Benchmade brand into four product classes for easier distinction
of product throughout the line. They are as follows:
Gold Class
- Our Gold Class clearly sets the new standard of what is possible in premium
knife manufacturing. It’s quite simply the best of the best. Made in USA.
Blue Class
- Our Blue Class represents the heart of everything that is Benchmade. These
USA made products are designed and built for the individual who appreciates the
difference that a high-quality cutting tool can make. Made in USA.
Black Class
- Our Black Class products are designed, developed and tested for extreme duty.
They are the preferred cutting tools for Law Enforcement, Public Safety and
Elite Military Troops around the globe. Made in USA.
Red Class
- Our Red Class offers "best in class” value. These edged tools possess
the same Benchmade mindset of leading innovation, modern materials and quality
manufacturing. Import.
Although the Red Class Series are discontinued for
2010, there may still be in-stock items here at the factory as well as at your local dealer.
Click
on the link above for each class and you can see what knives are in each class. If it is a 1, 2, or 3-digit model number, then it is
a manual knife/assited opening and legal in most places. I think the only
assisted opening knives they make are Blue Class.
If it has a 4-digit model number, then it is an automatic knife and restricted
to LEO/Mil.

Unless
it is an automatic opening knife (4-digit model number), don't worry about it.
I'm not sure if TX classifies assisted opening knives as automatic knives or
not, but if you can buy something like a Kershaw Leek, then you can buy a
Benchmade assisted opening knife. One of the easiest ways to tell is if it has
a thumb stud or not. No thumb stud = automatic knife. Thumb stud =
manual/assisted.
If it's a used knife, make sure the box isn't a dark gray box instead of black.
That means that the knife had been sent to Benchmade for resharpening or
something and that is the color box they use to return it to you. Their
LifeSharp service, warranty service, and general customer service is great,
btw.

Automatic =automatic. Assisted opening is not automatic here. BM is a great company, I've had nothing but good dealings with them.
My uncle sent in a Benchmade that my dad gave to him (not as a Christmas gift or anything...Dad had used it for a while). He broke the blade, and they replaced it without a question.
Has a button on knife to "activate" it. So yea I do work for a Sheriffs Dept. but not commisioned. Not sure I could get away with EDC unless I was in uniform.

Yep, got a little ahead of myself posting from my cel... should have worded that different. You are absolutely correct, all black box knives are not all LEO/Mil... BUT, all Benchmade
autos are black box (unless they have changed something in the last couple of years).... guess I should have just asked if it was an auto.

If you're not commissioned, then probably not. Just get an assisted opener, specifically a 581 Barrage. Lightning fast, awesome steel (M390), G10 and aluminum scales in a 3.6" blade. I've seriously considered getting one myself just for the blade steel, let alone the Axis Assist. I had a min-Barrage (585), and it was sweet! Sold it to fund a limited edition knife, but I wish I had it back.
