Just picked up a Barrett M99 on a whim - anything I should know about the M99? (added PICS)

I met a guy to buy one of my USO scopes and before we met up, he suggested that if I had any other high-end optics, he'd trade me a Barrett M99 for them. So on a whim, he got a nice S&B PMII and I picked up a used M99. This appears to be an earlier version with the "4 gill" brake on it. It has the bipod and came with Barrett 30mm rings on it. The trigger actually feels very nice as well.

I'll admit that I am new to .50BMG - never fired one. Is there anything I should know about this M99 in particular? (already know about FCSA)

I know, I know; pics, right?

EDITED TO ADD PICS:

It's expensive to feed.

Pics added.

I have about 100 rounds of Summit re-manufactured French surplus ammo that I kept from the previous .50BMG I had that I never got to shoot. Hopefully I get to this time around. Also got a bunch of primed brass with the Barrett.

So, anything I should know about the M99 in general, or even more; about this specific model of the M99? I think it's the CQC model; it has the 29" fluted barrel with the older style brake.

Call Barrett and see if the firing spring/sear update had been done on it. If not, you may have light strikes. The 99's with the 29" fluted barrels were my favorite to fire when I worked there. Nice and light and very accurate.
Most of them have Fedderson diamond paste honed barrels. The inside of them are like glass.

You will like it.

Thanks. I just called and am waiting for "Vicki" to get back to me. She said she has to research the serial number on it and find out when the updates were made.

I just ordered the upgrade for mine - I was having FTF on WCC primed brass and surplus Singapore M33 ball. Also get the muzzlebrake upgrade - that brake was designed for the 82 and doesn't do enough to cut recoil on the M99.

Hard to tell when the whim will hit. I Forrest Gump'd my way into a deal on a AR50 and I still can't get the damn grin off my face.

I'd had my 99 a while before I realized there is a backlash adjustment setscrew forward of the trigger on the trigger assembly. Makes the trigger much nicer.

Well, to be fair, it's not like I dropped $4K on it. I traded a S&B PMII straight across for it - hadn't planned on doing that, but was probably going to sell the scope anyway, so that's the "whim" part of it.

Still have yet to find a place to shoot it though.

OP-How much you want for the old brake? I have a Mossberg 500 that's just screaming for one!

It's a paperweight on my desk. BTW, your next post is 6000.
