My 17s has a '1' closer to the front of the grip and an 'F' closer to the back, both next to the allen head
My 16s has an 'F' and a '3'
Both grips are the same size, color, design, etc.
No idea what those markings mean.

Actually the grips aren't the same. The SCAR factory grip is not an M16A2 grip, which is why you have to modify an M16 / AR15 grip to fit a SCAR.
FN Scar grip tang is over-sized. Well documented here, and on FNforum.net in the modification section (Do a search on my tread...How modify Miad grip, etc.). Same grip as M4/M16 systems.
Before I decided to mod the tang, I took the 16S grip off and attached it to a 6920, 6940 and vice versa. Same grip. Both fitted fine. Both have deep enough recess for FN's oversized tang. After market makers have shorter recess, so it will not fit the Scar without a 1/8" gap. You had to either mod the grip or the tang. Your choice.
Mine is marked 1 F (16S).
My 16s is marked with a "2" towards the front and a "F" towards the rear
Black 16S
Little number 2 in the front, allen screw, large capitol F in the back.
thank you guy for the help. here is what I have found, I have three new COLT AR-15, and all have F1 and F2 inside the grip, so I guess colt is buying FN

Oh... My... Gosh... It happens.
Better post this in AR discussion so the site implodes.
