Need help deciding which gun to keep (Sorry for a Scar vs AR thread, but this one is with a twist)
I'm tightening my belt for the time being and have to shed the bulk of my collection. My last 2 carbines are a Scar 16 and an SR-15 E3. I definitely have more money into the scar at this point, it has the giselle trigger, and I was lucky enough to snag an FN 10"CQB barrel assembly with gasblock/rail etc, so I can swap back and forth pretty easily. I also have an M4-2000 which I don't plan on selling as it would probably take a huge dump in resale, so I like the adjustable gas block (however the 16" barrel has like 3 MOA vertical shift with this suppressor, NOT cool.) I also like the fact that it's FDE as out of the other 3 guns I'm keeping, 2 are FDE (Gunkote'd Glock 19 and Surgeon 591 wearing an AICS in FDE.) I know that's a silly reason but hey, it appeals to me.
Now for the SR-15, I definitely LOVE the weight of this gun. As well as the scar balances, for me the SR-15 still feels significantly lighter. I'm also really used to the AR manual of arms, I've been shooting one since I was 12 years old, however I've been practicing very frequently with the scar for the past 2 so this may be a less significant factor. Suppressed it does blow a lot of crap back in my face, however the 16" barrel has a shift similar to the scar's 10", much better than the scar's 16" barrel's vertical shift. Cosmetically this also has a place in my heart as the wilson combat I'm keeping is black so they go together :D
Normally I would probably pick the SR-15 since my concern would be getting replacement parts, but since FN now sells the bulk of scar replacement parts and I already have another barrel, and the SR-15 does use some proprietary parts, I feel that this once differentiating factor is negated.
I wish I could keep both but I can't, money is tight and I have to make some sacrifices. I want to keep 1/1/1 with a 556 carbine, 308 bolt and 9mm pistol, as well as my wilson because that's my baby.
ETA - Forgot to add, one slightly frustrating point about the scar is that when I put my IR otal, my scout light and my optic on it, there is very little room for much else. Since LDI for some reason didn't put an illuminator in their civilian dbal and I'm too scared that a 3K ATPIAL will break and I can't get it repaired, I need to have an IR illum somewhere on the gun. I know surefire makes an IR head for the M600 but the problem is that I run mine in a gear sector mount and the KM2 head is significantly larger than the regular led one and would rub against the gas block, preventing me from installing it. I still don't have an IR illum so any suggestions are appreciated!
**Also forgot to mention, I only have 1 optic right now, a Viper 1-4, so I can't just mount my PVS-14 behind an aimpoint or eotech and call it good, I need to fit the laser and illum on the gun.
Boy, I'd have a hard time choosing. Both are great guns.
But I'd probably keep the SCAR. I think it's a better design, and if you have the extra barrel, it's extremely flexible.
Keep the SCAR!
I assume it is a registered SBR (since you have a short barrel). You'll loose money in taxes selling it as compared to a title one gun.
You can always buy a rail extension to add more room for all the gadgets.
I would suggest getting a Branham rail extension if you're running low on rail real estate.
Should let you run the Vampire head without a problem.

I own a SCAR 16, and I really regret not getting an SR15 first. It's my next rifle.
Your best bet is to sell me that barrel of yours.
Otherwise, that's a really tough choice.
ETA: Since you need to get rid of one, get rid of the one that'll probably get cheaper down the road - the SCAR. When they came out, $2500 was a good price......now they're down to $1800 (used) to $2100ish. I think the price is going to continue to drop. You can always buy a new one when times get better or you can even get a 17 (which would be awesome if the rumored conversion ever sees the light of day).
NM, reading comp. fail. Keep the SBR
Since the SCAR is an SBR, I'd keep that. You'd be loosing money most likely unless you have someone in-state who really wants that setup.
Add the Branham rail, and a SF Vampire light. As for why LDI didn't put an illuminator on their lasers, lasers illuminators are Class 3, and thus restricted.
You could also look at the Inova WML for a dual light, or the Insight M3X incan w/ IR filter.
POI shift is so bad due to the light weight profile of the bbls.
ETA: Where did you get a whole 10" bbl setup for the SCAR?

Got the barrel off gunbroker, it appears brand new unused, but it was $800 which I'm not sure how I feel about. By the was the WML IR looks sweet but I can't find it for sale on their website, where did you find yours?

I don't own a WML. I have vampires.
Call them
http://www.inforce-mil.com/wml-ir.php
I own two Vampires and like 'em both. The white olight has a slight bluish cast and a just noticable orangish ring around the hot spot (due to the dual-diode set-up), but is strong, and shows otherwise very nice characteristics. The IR illuminator works very nice. The IR doesn't have the throw of a laser illuminator, of course, but it works well enough at any range I could visually ID a target through a PVS-14. Having the ability to change the illuminattion type with a simple head twist is just an aweesome capability.

Well you guys just confirmed what I originally thought, I'm going to order the Branham and the KM2 head today! I'll update with some pics when they arrive.

I LOVE my SCAR but am now in the market for another rifle I'm really torn between another SCAR or the SR15.... I guess these are the good problems to have.
