FNC or SCAR 16?
Need to decide on what rifle should be my next acquisition. Have no practical experience with any of them and don't see converting the FNC to class III unless I move to a less restrictive state which isn't going to happen anytime soon. Do any of you have both rifles and can give pro/cons of each?
The FNC is more collectable and it was used in the movie Heat
The SCAR is a much more modern weapon and has ambi controls.
I had several FNC's....great rifles.....but sold them. I have a SCAR16S. Much better rifle than the FNC in my opinion. FNC's have one large advantage...and one large disadvantage. Advantage...cheap pre 86 sears....under $3000.....allows you to get into a full auto 5.56mm weapon for under $7000. Disadvantage...severe lack of spare parts.
I will stick with my SCAR-16S
thanks for the input. Seems like spare parts for any FN product is hard to come by. From what I've gathered so far, under normal wear/tear, the firing pin is the only thing that an FNC ownder should keep handy - and DSA now makes that part. I've also seen FN licensed Indonesian parts, though not much. for sale.

This was my exact dilemma. Always wanted a FNC, but prices are ridiculous now, and I don't feel like they are worth the asking price IMHO.
Went with the SCAR.
Get both
I love my FNC, but I prefer the ergonomics of the SCAR. The SCAR has factory & aftermarket support, where the FNC has
virtually none. I wish we could get parts from Sweden for the AK5, to modernize the FNC. I recommend getting a SCAR unless you plan
on purchasing a sear, mine should be approved any day now.

All I'm gonna say is

My personal opinion––I own a FNC 16" Howco and a SCAR 17. If you are looking a the SCAR platform I would get the 17 first. The FNC "spare parts" thing is and always has been overblown. I have owned and sold 7 FNC's over the years and shot all of them, never breaking a firing pin, and most were used guns with unknown round counts. My buddy had a full auto conversion and he shot thousands of rounds and only broke ONE firing pin.
I bought a couple spares from a guy here in the US who specializes in FNC parts and put them in the box.
The SCAR 16 in my humble opinion does nothing any other 5.56 weapon with rails and a folding stock does. Do I want one down the road? Sure-why not if you can afford it.
But the FNC will always be a super collectible gun. It is a very accurate weapon and if you choose you can get a optics rail from Stormwerkz and a railed handguard from Brugger and Thomet (sp?). It has an excellent folding stock and good open sights, and a great handguard that will keep your hand protected no matter how hot it gets, and it is an AK gas system so it is super reliable.
The 17s in my opinion offers up a .308 that is light, reasonably accurate and "modern". The HK, FAL, M14 feels so "old" when you compare. The AR10 has a lot of the same good points of the AR15 but at a 2 lb. heavier weight disadvantage.

it may not offer much new capability, but it does what it does in STYLE. :)
IMO, the recoil impulse is a strong selling point, as well.

The whole range of FN SCAR parts are now easy to come by from several sources and it's getting better as the aftermarket is catching up.
FNC parts, as noted, are tough. Smart FNC owners usually buy another FNC as spare parts.
Also as noted, there are more registered FNC sears than there are FNC semi-auto host guns, so this will always be the best bargain around for an MG.
I don't know much about the FNC, but I do love my scar17s.
The thing is light, accurate, and VERY controllable for a .308
Those three things are what I expected to get out of my SCAR, but even though... every time I shoot it im still surprised at how much better it is than current .308 battle rifles.
