I just brought SCAR 16S and needed a scope recommendation.
I'm looking for .223 specific optic w/ at least 4x capability.

Should I get a used ACOG or get something like this? http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=460800
My budget is $600 max.

thanks in advance!

used TA01NSN fits your budget best without sacrificing too much

It was issued, now they've got a couple of newer ACOGs, the TA-31RCOM4, TA-31RCOA4, and the M150. Most common issued optic for the SCARs though are Elcan Specter DR SU-230s and EOTech 553s in tan, designated SU-231/PEQs.

What distance are you going to be shooting mostly. If its under 100 yards get a red dot. 300 yards or so something with magnification would probably be better. I normally rock a acupoint 1-4 on mine.

Thanks for your input.
I'm planning to shoot at 300+ yards.
Where to find ACOG at around $600 range in good used condition?

If your planning on shooting that far you might want even more power then a ACOG. Try looking in the EE my friend.

ACOG is perfectly fine as a combat optic out to 600+ yards, as long as you are just trying to hit the target, not shoot 1 MOA groups.

As someone who will never go into combat I found my ACOG always left me wishing for more power especialy when on something like a MK12 or recce gun. Shooting at things like rabbits, marmots, crows, coyotes ACOGs just didnt cut it at anything over 200 yards. As a combat vet I will gladly take your word about its use on humans.

The farthest I used my ACOG in country was about 50m, BAC does work in my experience.

When I went to SDM school last summer we used 4x ACOGs at 600m targets all day long. You might not be getting any sort of CNS instakill BOOM! headshots, but you can hit the target if you get your holds down.

On the OP's budget, if he wants more magnification, he might want to look into maybe a Leupold Mark AR 4-12. Its pretty inexpensive, but very clear glass. I've got a 3-9 and it works very well.
