 Future of the SCAR 16

What do you guys think the future SCAR 16 is? Will FN keep it in production since the US is not adopting it at this time? Is the future the SCAR H with a 5.56 caliber change kit? Does FN still plan to do a conversion kit?

I would love to pick up a SCAR 16 but not if FN drops it to concentrate on the H and a conversion kit.

Thanks!

I haven't heard of any plans to develop a kit, other than speculation. If there is definitely a kit coming out, all the more power to the 17 owners.

I bought a SCAR 16 and don't care for the 17. 5.56/.223 ammo is cheaper and more plentiful, as are my STANAG M16 magazines.

Did you buy your SCAR in MI? Where and how much might I ask? PM me the answer if you need to.

IIRC FN had planned a kit to work on the 17 only. The upper had been redesigned for it. At least that is what i read.

I see the 16 being offered to other militaries (besides the US) and seeing increased sales to the US civilian market. The 17 seems to be the preferred choice for the US .mil right now, and I don't see that changing. "IF" the conversion kit comes out for the 17...that may be a game changer to everything I just posted.

here's my question––-what is FN doing with all the short barrels now that they aren't selling them to us military

I know I'd definitely be in for one if they become available.

I think that the SCAR L is doing pretty good in the civi market. I dont think that FN will stop production any time soon as long as sales are up.

I would really like to hear more about the future of the SCAR platform as a whole. Is SOCOM happy with the SCAR H? Now that they have had time with the weapons in the field are they satisfied? Is the MK 20 being fielded right now? FN claimed that it would be in Mid May of 2011.
I love my SCARs and know that they are mechanically better weapons than the Stoner design but from what I can see the good ole M4 continues on.
The Seal team that wacked Bin Laden were reportedly using 416s. Obviously there is something to like about the AR platform over the SCAR.
Who knows?

Check this magazine out. Scroll down to page 9 for the skinny on the SCAR program. Great read.

Thanks for the link. I read this article a while back. It says a lot about the SCAR program. From reading the article it appears to have a future. Hopefully some new news will come out to back this up.

Just because NSW is not interested in the MK16 doesn't mean other organizations wouldn't be. There is still the whole LE, DEA, FBI type communities as well.

For FN, all the hard work is done with the design, with $$ and professional input to boot. Now that the SCAR 16 is in production, there will always be a market for it, and FN will always offer one. Now the F2000 or FS2000, that is another question, because there are few if any top tier organizations using them. I realize that SOCOM is not going to buy any SCAR Light's, but a SCAR 17 with a 5.56 kit installed IS for all intents and purposes a SCAR 16/SCAR Light. Also as more and more top tier groups start using more and more SCAR's (and they will). sales will continue to go up for both types.

As the SCAR family increases in use, I wouldn't be surprized to see the Mk 16 see broader adoption. And there's still Big Army.
