The easiest way is with an Atchisson/Ceiner conversion. You remove the regular bolt & bolt carrier, insert the .22 conversion and close the gun up. Insert loaded .22 magazine and go play.
They can be a bit fussy to get running and they will dirty up your bore, chamber and gas tube, but they generally work quite well.
Is there a way to do it with a dedicated barrel/upper combo ? I mean not an adapter into a 5.56 chamber - a dedicated .22LR barrel ?
Yes, almost everyone who makes a conversion also offers it as a dedicated upper with true 22lr barrel, and even complete rifles with the dedicated uppers.
My personal recommendation is CMMG.

I cant find any listings to buy the weight or trip. Is this one of those things where you have to give the secret handshake to get the parts ?!

Weight and trip are currently ONLY available from Ciener, or used off various forsale boards.
CMMG is promulgating a new trip design compatible with their forward assist and bolt hold-open mods, but it's not in production or generally available yet.
The CMMG enhanced kits are compatible with the old style weight and trip, but you have to remove the FAA to mount the weight, and the old style trip interferes with the BHOA. For full auto use, your only current choice is to order from Ciener or purchase used, and forgo the fwd assist and bolt hold-open functionality.
(You still get to enjoy improved live round extraction, slickness of the stainless steel body improving cycling, and the extractor pin and firing pin retaining pin upgradedness)
