10.5 inch Vietnam style shorty upper

Hey guys,

I was at my local gun show about 2 months back and I saw something I really, really should have bought but did not and now I am regretting it and I cant seem to find any online anywhere. Plus I dont know what the dealers name was so I cant locate him till the next show.

I saw this little shorty (10.5) barrel, A1 upper with the little shorty vietnam triangular handguard on it. It even had the 3 prong flash hider on it. It was the coolest little upper and I just fell in love with it and I REALLY want one for my .22 kit to be my dedicated upper for my attchison kit. I already have my 5.56 uppers (shorty and regular) and I am set with those but I really need to find one of those little A1, Vietnam style, shorty uppers. That would be perfect for my .22 upper. I just love that thing and I wish I had bought it when I was holding it at the gun show. It did NOT have a chrome lined barrel and it was not the best of the best so to speak but it would be PERFECT for my .22 kit. In my opinion.

anyone know where I could find one of them? I dont even know who the manufacturer was but the guy was asking like 3 bills for the upper. Not a big deal really because I can build one no problem as I have most of the parts already but just thought I would check with you guys first to see if you have ever seen many of these around.

thanks and if worse comes to worse I will just have to wait a few months till the next gun show or I will just build one myself.

Sounds like someone was trying to create a shortened 605 upper.

Yeah I think thats what it was. A guy on uzitalk told me it was a 607 Air force model

i would think everything should be easy to get excepting the short triangle handguards. i know cav arms did a short run of them a while back, but i don't know of anyone else.

Rob

It may very well be, but a true 607 had a sound/flash moderator not a 3-prong FH.

Well I found the shorty handguards I am looking for.

Now I just need to find a "cheapo" A1 upper with blaster 10.5 barrel.

Since this is merley going to be my .22 upper I dont need anything special

You're gonna love it.

This is one of my two most-often-shot uppers. It's an all-Colt A1 upper cut to 11.5" The shorty triangular feels just right:

Where did you all find the shorty triangle handguards? I need a set.

About ten years ago, Ken Drasen (Sendra) made and sold the rear end caps for like $10 or $15 each. You just took a set of regular triangular handguards, measured from the front back, and hacksawed the rear off to make 'em carbine length.

I don't know who has 'em now.

Total Silence Inc has them. You could try Jhud at retroblackrifle.com too. Ronnie

Yup, NoDak Spud used to carry them and sell them with their retro AR-15 lowers.

Interesting. I hate this place. Every day I find something else I didn't even know was made, and yet now I have to have it.

No kidding. Glad I got rid of my SO before I really got into this site. I couldn't afford to feed both her and my need for weapons.

These uppers are pretty cool. Lightweight too.

I have several kits, with front and rear caps, ready to ship.
All that I need to build one is a barrel.

just finishied building my vietnam era shorty upper tonight.

This will be my dedicated .22 conversion upper. I stripped the upper off an old Colt 20 inch barrel and ordered the 10.5 barrel and handguards. The other stuff I had laying around.

NoDak Spud had them. They got theirs from Tony's Custom.
