If I put a 300 Blackout < 16" on my SBR lower that was listed as 5.56 on my form 1, Is that legal?

my understanding is that you may have any upper on the weapon that fits, but it is preferred that it has been listed on the form 1. You must also be in possession of the original listed configuration upper to maintain compliance. In reality, the lower is registered as the sbr regardless of the upper.

As long as the change isn't a permanent one, you can put any caliber and any length barrel on it and be perfectly legal. Even if it is permanent, a simple letter to NFA Branch notifying them of the change is all you need.

Thanks. I understand the more than one upper, it was the different caliber I was unsure of..

I was assuming different uppers would be different calibers. I have a couple SBR lowers but no duplicate caliber uppers for any of them.
