I am no expert, but from my understanding, with the 1" you increase range and velocity by fairly significant amounts. At least that is what I was told when I had a similar question. I am sure those with more knowledge than me on this subject will be along shortly.

I prefer the 11.5" barrels just because they tend to be more reliable and wear suppressors slightly less and have a little extra velocity and personally i don't even notice the extra 1" length compared to a 10.5" barrel.

I have both. Both run fine. I had the 10.5" gas port opened to .078. The 11.5" has always run fine. Both run suppressed.
If you get an 11.5", you will still end up getting a 10.5". I wasn't satisfied until I did.
That was what I used as an entry weapon on the E.R.T.

10.3" has worked for me thus far, but I have a 10.5" Spike's upper at Gemtech having a Smith G5 Bi-Lock mounted:

The 10.3" will soon be a dedicated .22LR upper.

Bushmaster XM15-E2S, Barrel cut to 10.3" by Adco.
Gemtech Outback II Suppressor
CMMG Stainless .22LR Conversion Kit

Bushmaster complete lower (Bushmaster)
Spike's Tactical 10.5" 1-7 barrel, Smith Vortex G5 mount (Aim Surplus, mount/suppressor obtained from and mounted by Gemtech)
LMT Fixed BUIS (Bravo Company)
Aimpoint M2 in Wilcox Mount (Aimpoint- SKD Tactical, Mount- Brownells)
KAC M4 RAS (EE)
Surefire Scout with KX2C Head Upgrade, Gear Sector Offset Scout Mount (EE)
Magpul B.A.D. Lever (Brownells)
Ergo Grip (Brownells)
Gear Sector Single Point Sling (Brownells)

This. 11.5 is significantly better.

I went 10.5" for my guns.
No problems so far except its hard to stop shooting them.

i have one of each, if you plan on getting the KAC NT4, the 10.5/10.3 would be great for a MK18 clone, but the 11.5" wins in the velocity/range category

then again, IMO the role of an SBR is close range and a 10.5" upper is fine out past 100yds with the right ammunition. i chose an 11.5" barrel for my wife's SBR since it's her primary AR and the extra velocity/range is worth it.

Where do you guys find these gun lovin' wives? Mine used to like to shoot. Then she used to like to do a lot of things she doesn't do now
Since we've had grand kids, she just does not want anything to do with weapons.

In true ARF.com fashion........BOTH.

My 10.5" gets the new GEMTECH G5 that I just picked up on Saturday
and the 11.5" operates perfectly with the Noveske PIG.

As long as you got with quality either will be fine. I have a 10.5 Noveske/ DD lite, I just got a BCM/urx 11,5 which is also great. The urx is sweet.

Go longer. Less wear on the can and longer frag range for little or no increase in overall length with can attached. I personally belive there is little reason for shorter than 11.5" .223 AR.

I’d go short…

The 11.5” doesn’t look as Tacticool:

I strongly disagree ...

But looks be damned, considering 11.5 has so many performance advantages over the 10.5 and the fact that loosing that extra 1" isn't going to matter in the least from a size\compactness standpoint, I don't see any good reason to go 10.3\10.5"? YMMV?

10.5 noveske, that's where it's at!!!

10.5 in FA, that's really where she shines Over 3k rds through her and no FTF.

BCM prefers 11.5"
LMT prefers 10.5"

I think you will be okay either way.

As long as you go with a quality 10.5 inch upper you should be fine. Really comes down to what you want. If you want a mk18 style gun then go 10.5.

For me with a fsb I'd go with a 10.5 because it looks better to me. If you are going with a longer rail with a flip up sight on it and a low profile gas block I'd go 11.5.

For my first I went with 10.5 and just go it assemble the other week. Just got the flash hider setup for my supressor today(the FFL doing the transfer couldn't get it lined up right so I took it to tsc machine). The gun is going to wear a gemtech halo when the stamp comes back(at like 60 days right now). I can't really comment on reliability yet as my gun hasn't been shot enough but in the first few mags it ran without issue.

Down the road I plan on doing a slightly longer sbr. If I go with a 11.5 it will wear that bravo company upper with the kac rail. If I got 12.5 it will be a kino config with a larue rail or a complete larue upper.

My 10.5

I was in the same dilemma a few months back.

I'm quite satisfied with 11.5" and do not find myself pining for a 10.5",

but rather a suppressor
