This may be a stupid question, but I've heard some conflicting information about this.
So, it is it legal to import DDs (bombs, rpg launchers, bazookas, artillery etc) for sale to the general public via the NFA?
I wasn't sure if they were banned from import by the sporting purpose part of the GCA of 1968 or any other law.
Thanks.
Imported NFA firearms and devices are not transferable to civilians. They are all SOT, LE or .gov only.
You are correct, the GCA of 1968 defines three categories of imported firearms: NFA, Military Surplus and firearms "suitable or readily adaptable to sporting purpose". Only firearms in the latter category may be imported for civilian sale.
With the exception of MGs, all other imported NFA firearms or devices have the same status as a pre-May Dealer Sample MG. They may be imported by SOTs as sales samples or for research pursuant to their license, then kept after expiration of that license as long a the licensee is a sole proprietor.
Thank you.
Which is a shame, because I really want an hk 40mm launcher.
