NYS DD Permit??? Has anyone ever heard of this? Updated...resolved

On 11/12/10 I sent out a form 1 for an M79 and today received it returned with a note saying that a NY permit for DD is required. I've never heard of such a thing and didn't require it a couple of years ago for my M203. To my knowledge, there has been no passed firearm legislation in NY in the past couple years, and certainly nothing dealing with NFA items, so I don't think such a thing exists.

Update: I managed to get ahold of the inspector, who was really friendly and helpful, they looked up my info and promised to get back to me. Couple of hours later they called me back to let me know they had made a mistake and that the form 1 would be approved tomorrow. I was really pleasantly surprised at how this was handled.

Interesting quandary. If you're LEO, your LEO ID should suffice as such a "permit", if you're not an LEO, how are you filing a From 1? Did you get an CLEO signature? If so, that should suffice as a permit. If you're going a trust/LLC route, you're probably screwed..

So as a lowly peon in NY I can fill out a form 1 and gets me a Street Sweeper?

That would be a huge negative. First off, it would be a Form 4 unless you plan on constructing one yourself. Secondly, you'd have to have the CLEO sign off on it, and Third off, the "Street sweeper" or "Striker 12" is banned expressly by name in NY, unless you're LEO ofcourse

What about those possessed pre 94 by NYS residents? Are those transferable? I know a collector with a USAS 12, A Street Sweeper and a Striker 12in his collection. There's even a registered RPG-7 and a couple 40mm's to boot.
