I am thinking about registering my 37mm launcher as a DD but want the 40mm setup. I was wondering if i can just use the 40mm barrel once the launcher is registered or will i have to purchase a different receiver and then the 40mm barrel. I read in a different post that a 37mm barrel can be used on a tittle one receiver and then once registered as a DD the barrel can be replaced for a 40mm one any help with this question will be appreciated

If you have a 40mm barrel and a unregistered receiver it is a big no no. (a trip ta see bubba) Its my understanding that you register the receiver and then you can get a 40mm barrel. Also on your form 1 or 4 the cal. has to be listed. This is a good place for info http://www.freewebs.com/grog/. Grog is a member here and knows all about it .

No i don't have the 40mm barrel yet figured it to be pointless to buy it without having the receiver registered or even knowing if it would work , thanks for the reply

From every thing I have researched you wouldn't want to do that. The Cobrays were built rather cheap and won't handle the higher forces imparted by the 40mm munitions. I have however heard that the Spikes Havoc works great. Although you have to have the barrel bored out to 40mm due to m203 barrels not being able to be mounted to it.

The answer to your question is YES. You can register your 37mm as a DD and later get a 40mm barrel for it. Using a 40mm barrel would just be a temporary situation and as long as you retain the 37mm barrel and have the ability to change it back to it's original "registered" form, you are cool with BATFE. That is exactly what I did with my Spiike's Tactical HAVOC. I have both 37mm and 40mm barrels.

Is a 40mm barrel a direct fit for a 37mm launcher or does significant machining/modification need to be done for the larger barrel to fit?

Im weighing to cost of turning down 40mm adapters to use in the 37mm launcher vs upgrading to the 40mm barrel. (following appropriate legal requirements of course)

The only options you have right now, are real M203 (LMT, Shivak, Colt,) with a Shivak 37mm barrel (a title 1 firearm and registered) or to buy a 37mm flare launcher such as a Spikes or B&D, and bore them to 40mm after you register them as DD. There is no other 37mm barrel that has enough thickness to be safe after a boring operation. You cannot buy a Cobray 40mm barrel, as there is no such animal. GROG
