Cobray or Spikes 37mm with MOE handguards
I have the insane urge to stick a 37mm on my AR, and eventually DD it, but I like my MOE handguards and don't want to put rails on it since that will complicate going back to a light, simple setup when the 37mm isn't needed. Has anyone put a launcher from Spikes or Cobray on a 16" AR with MOE handguards and, if so, how did you do it? I know the MOE handguards will clear an M203, but I'm not so sure about the Cobray, and I have no idea on the Spikes.
Get the Spikes.
For nothing more than if it shits the bed, you can have it serviced.

After going back and forth on this for the last few days I have a plan. I'm going with the Spikes and I'm going to have a block machined that will clamp to the barrel under the handguards with a detachable lower section, held on with steel pins and a thumbscrew, that has a section of rail attached to it for the launcher to slide onto. That way I can pull off the launcher and put the lower handguard back on when I don't need the extra weight.
Step 2 is finding an M203 or a copy of it and registering it, then putting the Spikes on my CETME, which already has rails.
Besides, if I go with the Spikes I can stick it on the rail on my Mossy 500's forend for that way, way over the top look ;)
You might want to wait for a few months... Bates and Dittus, the maker of the TBL37 launcher is going to be coming out with a new under barrel launcher. If it is close to the quality of the TBL, it will be an awesome launcher, and priced right. Check out their launchers here:

They sent me their TBL37 launcher to T&E as I did on their original launcher, the Fireball. I will be doing so shortly, with test results and photos and videos of their new launcher posted on my site here: http://www.freewebs.com/grog/Fireball%20review.htm They have greatly improved their Fireball with the TBL37. It now has a safety, and the trigger spring is made of much better material than the original. Also, the handguards have sling swivel studs, and the stocks are of good quality. GROG

I'll be keeping an eye on their stuff, but for now I've ordered a Spikes and picked up a DD rail to put it on yesterday. If B&D's is a 203 clone, however, I'll probably switch to it and sell the Havoc (or put it on the CETME). I'm really wanting a 40mm 203, but it's not in the budget right now.
Good luck Bro. The Spikes appears nice. I've never had one here at the ranch to play with, but I have heard good things. Apparently, they hold their value anyway. GROG

Yeah, they have a good reputation, and I got a decent price ($330 with both 12 ga and 26.5mm adapters), so it'll at least be enough to get started on a project I need it for. I'm going to run a bunch of rounds through it, specifically some inert barricade penetrating CS/OC shooting at various wall samples, and put together a proposal for my Chief. I'd like to get a launcher at each campus so we have another option, something between yelling obscenities and 00 buck. I want to walk into his office with every piece of data possible and ready to answer any question he might have, so I need to shoot the thing quite a bit.
For my personal launcher, when I'm off duty, it's a hell of a lot of fun

I've put a couple of smoke rounds downrange through an M79-type 37mm and it was great fun. And it's a chance to learn something, so it's all good.
Hmm... would shooting a zombie with a smoke round count as anti-personel? Cause, well, zombies were people, too...

The Cobray launcher will fit with Moe HGs, I have the front mount directly behind the gas block, you will have to pull out the pin and turn the mounting block 1 way or the other because the allen headed screw goes into a hole that is not exactly centered in themounting block. Play with it alittle and you will see which way it needs to be.

Thanks, nice setup. In all of my searching that's the only clear pic of the Cobray mounts I've seen. One of these days I'll get an LMT or similar and build a "real" 203 AR setup, but for now the Spikes works. The only flaw I've found is the set screws to hold it on. Very annoying. I'd like to do some machining and stick in some kind of Larue mounts to make it more easily yanked off.
If you are going to DD your Havov ask Spikes about the upgraded HD barrel its only fifty bucks more. Im not going to DD mine any time soon but with reloading 37mm I wanted to stay as safe as I could. Also take a look at Grog's web page lots of good info, he has put together two CD's about reloading for the 37/40 mm. Remember safty first.
