They're just a DD, right? They transfer on a Form 4? I realize that any ammunition is likely considered a DD, even if it is not HE. Where would one purchase a mortar and how much should one expect to pay?
Non-explosive ammunition is not a DD. A 60mm mortar will be a DD on a Form 1 or Form 4. You can either build one from parts or buy one at the Small Arms Review gun show in December. I think a 60mm was going for around ~$2500 at the SAR show last year. Currently on my build, I have $800 tied up in the bipod, small baseplate, and mortar sight. I have yet to build the tube, cup, or firing pin or pay the tax. I'm waiting on a large base plate to show up on the market before going forward with my build.

Very cool. I was mainly looking to find out if it's something that a regular Joe could afford to buy and that looks to be the case. Thank you. From what you said, Smurf rounds wouldn't be registered but would likely be expensive. Where would I buy ammo? Can you PM me as your project comes along? Is there a local vendor that can help in locating or fabricating parts and munitions? I'm an MOSQ'ed 11C, so if you need any help gunning when your project is done, let me know.

Tell you what, I'm in the west valley. If you want to dip by the homestead one weekend, I'll show you what I have so far.

Excellent, thank you. I'm at about I-17 and 101 so it shouldn't be far. I'll shoot you a PM when Household Six lets me off the leash.
