You need to concentrate on offline sources for things like surplus military flamethrower parts if you want one already-built. Otherwise, you'll be rolling your own.

I'm guessing anyone who does deal in these parts, doesn't advertise the fact online, or may just be an old fart who thinks the pushbutton phone is too new for comfort and doesn't understand or doesn't give a damn about the internet.

Just get a pump-up refillable pesticide sprayer, fill it with kerosene, and tape a road flare to the end of the wand to use for an igniter.

Make sure your life insurance is paid up before doing this if you've got dependents.

15 years ago they were around for ~$5000.

The Chinese type 74s that used diesel were about $1400.

Just finding one now is the hard part.

If you are serious about a US M2 or M9 flamethrower in working condition, start by saving up about 10K. Then look around.

Many were sold to farmers after WW2 for burning crops. Now they are gold and people know it.

Just looked, the M2-2 military unit is $22,000 modified to use a torch instead of igniters, the other is an agricultural unit (not repro) and is $9000. I think the reproduction sold for $11,000. They are tested and working. They are fun but hard to find at what hardly anyone would call reasonable.

There were complete plans posted on the site a few years ago but the thread might have gotten deleted. I saved a copy but I have no idea where it is. If I come across it I'll send it to you.

Just use two small compressed air tanks and a little nitrogen bottle with a regulator for propellant. Then rig up a propane torch as an igniter. It really wouldn't be hard at all, just make sure to pressure test it and get all the kinks worked out with water before switching to a flammable liquid. Even if you buy a complete one test it before trying it with a flammable liquid. A side benefit of making your own is it would be pressurized with a gas that won't support combustion, so you aren't carrying a bomb on your back like with the surplus ones.

Illegal? Not under federal law.

OTOH, it would be financial suicide. Because it would not be long before someone buys one and does something stupid with it ... or loans it to someone who does something stupid ... and then every cent you make for the rest of your life will go to support the burn unit housing the stupid person, or put the children of the stupid person through college, etc.

It is exactly why, even though 100% legal if you go via a Form 4, it is impossible to buy a hand grenade in the U.S. today. No one is foolish enough to sell them to the general public.

Darwin is alive and well out there, and killing folks (ahem! thinning the gene pool) every minute. Don't get caught in the gene-pool drain by selling something so attractive and effective to the Darwin candidates.

YMMV.
