Just saw a Lahti L-39 thats been converted to 50 cal. Is it now no longer a DD? Also, what would be a decent price for something like this? It has a non original bi-pod mount as well. Anything I should look for or ask about this gun? They are asking $6500 for it. Any help is greatly appreciated.
the lahti has a different bolt head size than a 50 cal. so more than likely the bolt has been modded accordingly. also I'm not sure that the 50 bmg produces enough gas to cycle it anyways. now for $6500 you should be able to purchase a ready to shoot lahti in the original caliber that is already DD'd. now you can buy a title 1 lahti (no barrel or demil'd bbl) for around $3000 and then make a new barrel in the caliber of your choice (50 bmg, 14.5, 20mm lahti or 20mm vulcan)
I have a friend who made his into a 20mm vulcan, new barrel, various bushings and turn the rims on the brass to the Lahti dia. He down loads his ammo to about the same pressure as the original round and shoots his as a single shot.

I used to have some old gun mags from the 60's. There were adds for Lathi's for $100 complete with ski's and ammo for $1 a round. A complete Lathi and 100 rounds for $200 delivered by the mailman.

I wish I had 2 right now just for the hell of it.

a 14.5mm Lahti sounds sexy...but expensive.

oh yeah, big time expensive, Barrels are easy enough but the ammo is where its gonna hurt, not readily available reloadable brass, primers are difficult to find and expensive and lets not forget the projectiles there aren't alot of them available either. Powder would probably be the fairly easy part.
