As long as the receiver is not on the NFA books as a DD. You CAN purchase an M203 as a firearm and place a 37mm barrel on it.You will have to do so through a private transfer or an FFL dealer though. Once you put a 40mm barrel on it will be a DD and illegal without the tax stamp.

ETA: Why the "dear god" like it would be the end of the world if someone bought an M203?
well im not familiar with the rules for DDs only MGs, as in once an MG always an MG, I would have thought that these rolled off the line as fully constructed m203s with 40mm barrels as stated on the reciever thats all if you can get them legally as 37mm thats awesome i fully support it. i have no problem with people privately owning MGs, suppressors, DD or anything else for that matter, i just dont see why you'd want an m203 myself, especially for the 2k+ hes asking, out of curiousity how much does the 40mm barrel cost?
DD's are like SBRs –– if you return them to non-NFA status (in this case, by removing the 50mm barrel and installing a 37mm), you can notify BATFE that they are no longer in NFA configuration, and then they can be transferred like any other Title 1 firearm.
Though this guy is optimistic on the price –– you can buy new complete LMT 203's for $1.4k-1.6k last time I checked.
2850??!! Good lord...
someone who aparently dident know bought one for a lot of money, now everyone is trying to sell way above MSRP.
I dont remember how much it sold for.
