 7.62 suppressor; 7" vs 9"

I'm starting to lean toward picking up an SAS Ti can. They now offer a 7" and 9" length suppressor. I've seen the reduction numbers, but I don't know how well they apply to my intended use. I plan to use this on a bolt action 6.5 Grendel (18" barrel), occasional light use on a 10.5" .223 AR, and down the road a short barreled .300BLK, a bolt action .308, and maybe a bolt action .223.

I want to use this for hunting. The 7" is appealing, but I don't want to sacrifice too much reduction. I see a lot of 5.56 cans are 7", which leads me to think maybe I should go with the 9" model. Then again, the Sandstorm was my other choice, and it's 7.8". The SDN6 is 7.66" total. So what's another fraction of an inch?

My first hand experience hearing centerfire suppressors in person is limited. Any advice from those who have heard cans of various volume on the same gun would be appreciated. Thanks

It's called the Reaper. It's new.

I'll let you know how the Reaper does in 7 months or so...

Ordered it over the Arbiter for a 10" 300 BLK and a 16.5" POF 308.

We'll see...

www.milehighshooting.com, they're the distributor for SAS. It's on it's way to my dealer now via form 3, then my real wait begins... I'll probably get to shoot it with the dealer before the stamp comes in though.

So do any of the suppressor db test experts know if the 7" is going to give up substantially to the 9"?

I'm no expert and haven't laid eyes on the can yet, but Mile High's web site shows 32.5 dB reduction for the 7" Reaper vs 35.5 dB for the 9" Arbiter.

I would likewise be very interested ina real test/review.

I bet the ear can pick up a 3 db difference, but im not sure its enough to really make a difference.

I'd like to know what barrel lengths and calibers they used for the two tests.

I'm starting to lean toward playing it safe and going with the 9". The weight isn't an issue as they're both very light. The shorter one would be nice, but I don't want to go short at the cost of too much efficiency.

I decided to go with an Arbiter. It's light enough, I'm not concerned about the added weight over the 7". And I figure the better suppression is worth an extra 2".

Besides that I want a direct thread-on can, and Mile High Shooting told me the Reaper isn't available yet as a direct-thread, and may not be until the fall.

I bought an Arbiter from them today and got the ball rolling on the process. If I'm lucky I'll have it by Christmas.

Awesome. If you get it soon I'll race you to an approved stamp.

I read a lot of posts on different sites, and everyone seems to love the Arbiter. I don't think I came across a single bad review. I feel better about buying a can that's been around for a while so there's been time for reviews and evaluations to come out.
